I don't think either of those will happen, tbh. I think on Victory Day he will simply recognize the advances and conquered territories. Plus highlight the transition from Ukrainian to Russian control in many areas.
...and the fighting will just continue on as usual. I think too many people are making a big deal about this date since it's obvious Putin hasn't completed his mission before then and we just assume he wanted war to end by then from third party sources. No reason for Putin to save face. Only one side is heavily invested in the global information war.
Putin will definitely need to save face in Russia tho
Actually been confirmed now that the US is sharing intelligence with Ukraine to find Russian targets
What was it?
What was it?

The United States has provided intelligence about Russian units that has allowed Ukrainians to target and kill many of the Russian generals who have died in action in the Ukraine war, according to senior American officials.

Damn
Media Roots Radio was talking about this a week or two ago because apparently some French anchor/journalist slipped up and said something to the effect of US intelligence working with the Ukraine military + it made a lot of sense to em considering the very high number of Russian casualties

Good
Good
At what point are you just gonna say your stance is escalation good peace bad

The us has been sharing intelligence since day 1, the Russians been knew
Remember who told everyone the invasion was coming
Yet for some reason this hasn't escalated into a conflict with the us yet

Warning about an invasion is very different from "there is a general in this building target it to take him out"
That's unambiguously an escalation

I think while the Russians have been demonstrably incompetent and stupid, I'm sure they could infer this was going on. They're not that dumb
Let's see if this actually escalates anything or if the Russians just live with it as they have been until now
The US has been training and supplying arms to ukraien for ages now, why would they be shocked at the sharing of intel

The administration has sought to keep much of the battlefield intelligence secret, out of fear it will be seen as an escalation and provoke President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia into a wider war. American officials would not describe how they have acquired information on Russian troop headquarters, for fear of endangering their methods of collection. But throughout the war, the U.S. intelligence agencies have used a variety of sources, including classified and commercial satellites, to trace Russian troop movements.
Even the US administration understands that it's escalatory, you're in too deep fr, the war gave you permanent brain damage i'm afraid
Putin will definitely need to save face in Russia tho
Are his poll numbers coming down? Last month his approval rating in his country was near the 80s. And he still calls this a "special military operation." You can't even call this a war in Russia. Doing something to save face would only seem to benefit his ego, because there is no other reason to make a spectacle of May 9th like that.

I find it odd that the Russians would not have suspected tbis already

Well yeah but approval ratings for US presidents also shoot up when they go to war, they still have to pretend they won more than they really did, that's really the case with every leader in war pretty much

No you just wanna ignore what constitutes escalation so you can act like you're not a war mongerer, happened several times itt now, and everytime even the US understands that it's escalatory when you try to say that it's not

how do you think the russians will respond to this?

Holup lemme call Putin rq

because i dont think the russians are going to start bombing anyone in nato over intelligence sharing
i could be wrong but while it is inflammatory, i find it most likely the russians will seethe
again, just speculation, i could well be wrong

Yeah escalation is only when you drop bombs on another country you got it
Idk where you taking ur poli sci classes but man they're failing you fr

it jsut seems like short of actual aggression, there isnt really much scope for the russians to hurt nato at this point
they can up their own sanctions and jack the gas up sure, they can also increase their cyber and information warfare efforts
it just seems to my amateur view, the russians have far less means to hurt nato than nato has to hurt russia

For sure... that tweet thread @TragedyGhaddafi posted has realistic scenarios that could happen where Putin would not look as foolish as Bush did standing in front of Mission Accomplished poster.

Yeah is that not escalation my guy? So it's all good if NATO countries are gonna have to pay 100 euros for peanut butter we're gonna freeze during winter and govt websites get shut down bc the US wants to escalate war, just because it's not literally nuclear war?
You're lost

this is valid but it probably wont be very effective
the eu nations are increasingly looking to end reliance on russian oil and gas now, it will take time but if the eu can get more liquid natural gas terminals online, this could diminish in severity
i just think in terms of cost benefit staling the russian war effort by eliminating generals (who the russians rely on- they have poor mission command and without generals they are lost) is worth higher gas prices temporarily. you can make a utilitarian argument there
as for the hacking, thats all well and good until the us starts hacking them back, and more effectively
