Let me be clear, there is discrimination towards Russians. And that's very wrong. I also don't see the point of boycotting Russian individuals from, for example, sport events.

On the sanctions: most of them are a consequence of a country invading another sovereign country. And some could work very well in pressuring Putin to change his course, like the freezing of assets. That corporations pull out of Russia is also a lever, its used to pressure the regime. NATO can't do anything, that will mean World War III, so this is a different way of trying to change Russia's course. That doesn't mean all sanctions are okay.

I don't think any non-racist person would support the way minorities and migrants are treated in Ukraine... I don't know how much you know from Europe, but this is no surprise for me at all to be honest. In every European country there is racism towards African and Middle Eastern migrants, and in Eastern Europe, including Russia, it's even worse. Those countries are very conservative. There is a lot of racism and also homophobia for example. The extreme right is growing in all of Europe. Nazi groups are a big problem of some European countries, like both Ukraine and Russia.

I actually think there might be neo-nazis on the national level of politics in Ukraine. In a lot of European countries actually. They just disguise themselves as conservative nationalists (which to me is not that different in ideals). You can see that pattern in France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Poland and also Russia for example. So it would be no surprise imo. For me, Putin is actually not that far off from a nazi.

The Azov batallion is an example of extremists in the army, a pattern that is also visible in most other countries. The army attracts nationalists. That the Ukranian state is that open about their racism is new to me and very scary though. I share the concerns bout not wanting to arm them. At the same time, they are 1000 men strong and likely to be wiped out at the end off this. European or American weaponry comes too late for them since they're surrounded. How many neo nazis there actually are in Ukraine or Russia is difficult to say though. Russia for example is way more secretive about their extremists. They use paramilitary groups (the USA does this too btw), so that Russia can't be blamed for war crimes they commit and still gain influence in certain regions. All this said, i do support Ukraine since they're the ones being invaded and their country is being ruined because they want to be free of the shackles from Russia. I can't blame them for that. At the same time, i can see why Russia doesn't want that for their own security reasons.

It just seemed like you went from pro-Ukraine to pro-Russia in this war by the things you post. There was not much nuance to them imo

He’s not struggling against Ukraine militarily. He just can’t exactly completely level it because then it would be useless to him. Seems they are approaching it strategically by taking over nuclear power stations, etc. Ukraine will fall if Putin doesn’t ,unfortunately, it’s just a matter of when. Guess we’ll see how long Russia can survive under sanctions. If it does, Ukraine will become a massive insurgency afterwards.

The West isn’t arming and supporting Ukraine because they think they’ll win. They’re purposefully drawing out the fight because Russia can’t hold out with sanctions forever. Perhaps Oil will be the final nail in the coffin. You can tell something’s changed because Putin went from not caring about sanctions to all of a sudden considering them “an act of war”.

In fact, as someone posted, the government officials posted memorializing him as a hero. So maybe the initial story was false and that’s why they’re removing it?
