Basically, what I've said today - Ukraine is the end goal, Russia doesn't have the military nor economic recourses to expand further than that.
The nuclear threat is not a real threat, but an intimidation tactic to ensure Russia gets what it's after - occupation of eastern Ukraine and installing a puppet government in Kiev, or at least a neutral one to counterbalance NATO expansion.

No, he doesn't have resources for that. He wants a NATO buffer zone and he'll get that in Ukraine, by force or by negotiations.

Yes, they've applied but I sincerely hope the bureaucrats of the EU are smart enough not to risk more open conflict cause of Ukraine's will to turn west-ward. It sounds cruel and heartless - but it's like Mearsheimer said, that's politics and world hegemony, not much place for morals there.

Also, they've only just become applicants, we (Croatia) were applicants for 10 years before we got accepted. Even if the procedure was sped up, I don't think it would be possible to execute it during a full blown war in the applicant country.
