the problem isn’t his rap ability, everyone knows Drake can rap. that intro is literally side-by-side comparable to songs like Deep Pockets or Losses
the problem is the nigga don’t make songs like Over, don’t have feeling behind his voice on s*** like Weston Road Flows and can’t do an unforgettable intro like Tuscan Leather like he used to anymore cause he relies on DAW club music and whatever the f*** he raps about nowadays lmfao
quoting some s*** about his parents from that intro does nothing for me cause the very next song he’s back on his bullshit lmaooo
Trolling aside, and prefacing I legitimately have him as the GOAT, I can see where a lot of he critiques come from.
I miss him having a few things in the music, and one is structure. Whether it’s a legit pop song like HOWGH, Hotline Bling, One Dance, etc. A truly structured song with a verse, chorus, verse, chorus… feel like he’s too attached to switches/pivots or simply just these streams of rambling he goes on and he strays from structure.
Second is the rapping approach. The bars are undeniable even to this day, but it seems like it’s either that Middle of the Ocean laissez-faire flow he’s classic for (and I love), or it’s gotta be some trap-adjacent beat and he’s whispering or doing voice changes. The 5AM, Tuscan Leather, 6 God (hell even the screaming flow dudes on KTT1 used to troll about), just a different approach to rapping that I can’t quite put into words. I genuinely love Iceman and think it’s his best rapping since I’m not even sure when, but I can understand the critiques. He’s using new flows, new pockets, etc, which to this day is ridiculous he can still do it, but there is something about the older Drake rap records that lacks in the some of the newer product.
Still, Iceman got one miss for me and it’s the 21 song. Shabang already grew on me something crazy.

Future evolved A LOT musically he even showed depth he never used to.
He went from turn up rapper to mature artist.
Drake did the opposite. I’ve never seen an artist degenerate like this
Kanye if we being real. He went from undeniable goat music (which he still is based on that album run) to AI unfinished bs. Bully a step in the right direction tho
But yeah Drake dropped his best music in the beginning of his career too

I agree he’s stuck in this 30 for 30 style but it’s good content regardless.
