Every single artist on OVO flops regularly

Every Drake feature in the past three years has flopped

Drake’s own protege never saw any big success until he did a collab album with him

    It’s not a Kendrick or a Drake issue it’s a HIP-HOP issue

Hip-hop is not the zeitgeist right now the same way it was from 2015-2022

the biggest issue i have with the "hip hop is dead without drake" "kendrick era flopped" narrative is that people act like drake stopped releasing music after heart vi

he dropped a lot of songs and hopped on a lot of features but the only songs that had any impact in the charts were nokia and what did i miss. all the iceman singles he dropped flopped because they were not good it's simple as that it has nothing to do with dot era

With all due respect, the only people that feel that way are you guys.

Like Drake is still the most streamed rapper on a monthly basis, right? What is this “overall shift” the audience is feeling?

People are going back to his back catalogue CLB and prior to feel what they felt in hip hop before this.

cultural dominance, collaborative moments and memories.

that’s my read on it at least. People are so excited for Iceman because they want to escape this moment (dot era or whatever you want to call it) to a better place in hip hop. Where it was represented culturally as the #1, where new innovative artists were put on by the biggest albums of the year

i could go on but you get the gist

So is hip-hop media this big clown show that no one should take seriously, or are they end-all be all for what happens in hip-hop?

What point are you trying to make here

No, they’re revisiting his discography before his next album releases… which is what happens with basically every major artist whenever they announce a release date for a new album

Dot “winning” the beef and then dropping not like us, pop out, gnx and super bowl all contributed to the notion that he took the mantle from drake as the commercial and perceived leader of the game

Let The Party Die outlined it

most people probably don’t even know the term Dot Era but i’m sure the average listener can feel the overall shift

people put that on kendrick, at no point did he say or indicate he wanted the commercial mantle for hip hop

the only think kendrick wanted was to be recognized as the best rapper of his generation and that he was a more superior rapper than drake.

everything dot wanted he has followed thru on. if Nas put out watch the party die no one would expect him to become the next commercial rapstar

    Yes.

That’s literally what’s it always meant.

The three biggest, best selling guys of that generation.

That’s how it’s always been used. You think people were trying to replace Cole with Travis because of Travis’s ability on the mic?

Again, this really isn’t the reality at all. Drake’s back catalog has always been a heavy streaming juggernaut…that was true before, during, and after the beef. It’s not a feeling that they miss if it never went away.

People are not excited for ICEMAN because they’re trying to escape Kendrick theyre excited for it because they want to hear a new Drake album.

Drake dropping a new album is also not going to magically make everyone else in hip-hop more popular. I don’t get that sentiment at all.
