Yet most of his albums are classics

Does albums doing well commercially not make them eligible to be considered classics?

That we are still playing and talking about these albums, with the impact he has had… how can they not be.

Drake has classics but saying most of his albums are is delusional

Drake been on a run of working with artist he doesn’t truly have chemistry with like Yeat or Yachty . That he knows won’t really turn on or outshine him . I do miss when he could work with rappers or vocalist that complimented him better to make the best art

Again would love cashmere cat , xxyyxx , Naomi Sharon , Snoh on here . Countless other artist . More than a diss response album or mob ties or death note list of everyone he is mad at . Want a heart felt album of summer bops . Yes of course address the industry some but more than that address why you are where you are .

Absolutely agree, but there's 0 chance that's what the album will be like with a title like Iceman and the songs released leading up to it.

I still hope what did I miss isn’t on there . I think dropping some singles that aren’t on album in lead up to it isn’t bad . We are still 3 weeks away use this time to get out songs . Get some of that saltiness from 2024 out but don’t let it bog down the album itself

To be fair I think most artist aren’t delivering their best work . I’m not a Drake die hard by any means. I do think a beef will force him to adapt in ways he might not have so soon. Yes some have loved everything he has done no constructive criticism. Many though are listening out of curiosity to see what he gives us next . Same way many of us listened to ye bully . When you see an artist at their lowest or deal with so much controversy it’s fair to see what they do next

A lot of music especially rap has been mixed past decade . To the point it feels like many of the artist don’t have much to say conceptually anymore besides the drama of going against each other .

I will definitely listen because this man is talented and gave us countless crazy songs, but I have zero faith in his ability to deliver a classic at this point, it will be another bloated mess like FATD and CLB 100%

I think what they are saying is if the albums keep reentering the charts and being listened to still to this day . That means there are timeless gems or things people go back for after all these years . Which even if the entire album not a classic part of it is undeniably

The idea of what a “ classic “ is constantly morphs . Is it music that makes you cry ? Is it music you remember the first listen ? Is it top of the billboards and still listened by fans ? Is it influence ? Is it music you’ve made memories to

There are so many metrics each person will have their own metrics based on who is their fave artist

It gets to a point of “ dance monkey dance “ where I used to tweak out on people . Because they get crazy rude and talk about me like I’m an animal. “ he isn’t using the meme avy something is wrong “ . It gets really weird on here when people that don’t talk to black people in real life . Don’t shoot the s*** in a barber shop . Cant hold a discussion without passive aggressive rudeness and condescension get too comfortable .

But even if it’s bloated there can still be good songs on there again . I don’t think Kendrick , Drake , ye , j Cole , asap , future

    List goes on

Have a great project in 2020s front to back that doesn’t fill some what bloated . With a focused concept . Storytelling that lands . Their best work or even close to it

I mean if it’s sales or streams without bots . If it’s born to die some how reeentering the charts for the past 15 years . People worldwide listening and making memories to music . I don’t think that’s irrelevant. If a large amount of people are choosing with free will , money time to consume some art over long periods of time is that not classic ?

It’s not irrelevant. But it’s the least relevant

Spotify has a free version right? So not spending money. Streaming cheapens it all in general. Do you mean ready to die? By biggie? That album is phenomenal and that’s the main trait that makes it a classic

Most of the people hyped for reasonable doubt and blueprint anniversary dates haven’t had songs from either album in their top songs of the year for a decade or more if ever . They are still classics because they’ve heard them outside , djs , made memories to them

That’s why I said a classic has no central definition. It can’t be solely “ reviewers loved it “ cause we’ve seen reviewers not know what they are talking about

You all ( to ever it applies ) have this way of reading a paragraph and frantically focusing on one sentence . Rather than read the entire post and look at all the other things I state can make a song a classic . Why it’s so widely debated is because a classic is defined differently based on the user

All of which I mention in said post

It gets redundant to retype it rather than you read the original post

Much in recent years or been the top of their yearly listens. Many want to see because they never got a chance to see those original tours back then . Not because they are listening to blueprint and reasonable doubt daily weekly or monthly in the 2020s . I am saying whether they are still listening or not they are STILL CLASSICS to them because they grew up with them . For friends that I talked to going it’s where they fell in love with hip hop and rap .

I am saying whether someone still listens to an artist or album daily it can still have classics . BUT there is something to be said and it is impressive when some albums for 10-30 years ago still chart . Still have major physical sales . Still have fans that know every word . Still sell out tours. Karaoke . Can still be heard at weddings, in stores or listed as current artist inspirations for making art

    I absolutely agree

What criteria would say determines a classic?

Besides time. I think time has shown Drake has 2 undeniable classic albums. But we may have even known it the second we listened

I know I been over this on this site . An album will drop they listen once say “ classic “ “ instant classic “ when instant classic is a contradiction. To be a classic have to spend time with a piece of art reflect on it . Not rush to be the first to say something or classic for likes on internet and engagement. So much art discourse on internet now is “ slop , mid , overrated , goat , came and went , this is the only artist we need in this genre other artist should learn from them “ . Just really diluted filled with comparison . Rather than discussing the art . Rather than spending time with it . Artist make s*** for multiple years for someone to Rush through at midnight to call it trash . S*** for people to skip around an album to be first to hear a feature . S*** sad . Hope he does a listening party so we all hear at same time then it drops
