Ontopic, I think we all agree on some level that Iceman has to have the best rapping Drake has ever produced in his life on it, but what are our thoughts on the level of substance that it likely needs to be critically acclaimed?
I think more than any project before this one is going to matter on the legacy of Drake. Moreso than his first album, this is the one with all of the chips against him, with all eyes on him, sides that have the biggest expectations and sides that have the lowest. More than ever before this album will be s*** on by people who have no interest in actually engaging with it (in public), so the quality has to be at a level that drowns that out imo.
What are we thinking on the likelihood that it delivers in that context, or is that even possible for Modern Drake?

i think around 2017, Drake transitioned from “this woman hurt me, so i’ll sing about how hurt i am” to “this woman hurt me, so i’ll sing about how much better off i am without her”, and that fundamentally impacted the music’s quality for me
i think if Drake ever accepts his feelings again instead of bottling them, he could still make a great album. but the title “iceman” screams that he’s still freezing his emotions, so i doubt it’ll be this album.
