Imo Drake was trying to get into the public's good graces in the months after the beef. It reminded me of when I'd get into a fight with a girl or friend and kept texting them to see if they were still mad at me; Drake kept trying different things to see if anything would stick.

Even if you feel differently, most of what you described in your second paragraph also applies to the 4/4 EPs. Aside from the callbacks to his Dreamchasers series and promotion for DC4, he was in dispute with his label who didn't want him releasing music.

While I do think 100 Gigs were better than Meet Your Padres, $$$ felt like a return to form for me. 100 Gigs the vibes were off. I should revisit a few tracks, but to compare a leak like Cheerios to I'm Up, the former feels fresh while the latter feels like Carmelo in 2019. I preferred SOD with Yachty on it.

Anything he did then would be hated but the real problem with the 100 Gigs era was that associating with Drake became an actual negative. I think that public opinion on Sexy Red, Young Thug, and Lil Yachty turned due to their association with Drake.

If Drake doesn't go back to working with a bunch of rappers it will be heartbreaking because we are missing out on so much good music, but we all have had fake friends in our life, and it's better to move on than wait for them to come back after you've righted the boat.

Tbh I haven't watched 100 Gigs, but there's a world where I will. A Netflix documentary will be cheap, trashy, and have that same grating saccharine tone of that interlude on The Black Album.
