alright man 🤷‍♂️ you can have your takes but i don’t understand how you don’t love Her Loss based on what you just said. delivery is far from monotone compared to FATD and it’s not bloated in the slightest

I loved Her Loss because it was a focused, cohesive album that stuck to one sound for the most part, and when it deviated, it still fit the rest of the project.

My point was that he gave you exactly what you asked for, which was a reason for disliking drakes recent albums, and that wasn’t a valid enough reason for you.

I don't think it makes you a hater but it does make me question your ability to communicate if you can't explain why

Well I gave a good explanation a few posts below that one

  • Jalen Brunson Fan

Does it matter? Even if we gave you a laundry list of things we dislike about Drakes music for the last 5 years, you’re just going to tell us that we’re wrong

For example if I tell you that I think Drakes subject matter is too immature for where he is in his life/career, angels are going to tell me “Well he lives the life of a guy in his 20s you can’t expect him to rap about what he isn’t”

Or if I say his delivery has gotten very monotonous over the last few albums angels will tell me “Well at least he’s not doing stupid alien voices like other rappers!!”

Or if I say his albums are too unfocused and aren’t cohesive enough for my (subjective) taste angels will tell me “Well he has too many fans that like all his different sounds you can’t expect him to alienate his fanbase like that”

So yeah. It’s easier to just say “I don’t really like this”

That's kind of the ground floor with talking about music lol. There are other avenues for discussion ofc but still lol. At the end of the day our opinion is what it is. Unless you're susceptible to bullying

I was speaking more generally if you have an account on here you can def communicate your opinion.

Edit: I felt like Her Loss was monotone at first but it really grew on me there in that department after hearing a few songs in a different context.

The first few bangers are so good and it does slow down from there. And the slow songs took some time to grow on me

Her Loss has more energy but tough guy/misogynist Drake is a hard sell. It's fine as a one-off (Mob Ties) but is pretty cringe for a whole album. And it's not like the beats or songs are mind-blowing.

Would take Views or even Scorpion over it

I actually felt like it was better in that department than some of Drake's other music. It did feel at times like 21 was humoring Drake.

I do think 21 emboldened Drake to be more aggressive, but it's not like he had a lot of lines like I should be in there with Thug and them on there.

I like those but won't defend them

The lines where he talked about the abortion ban were so performative I liked them in a different way than he meant them.

Ok I’m gonna pick a Drake song, I want you to go into extreme detail on what you like/dislike about it

    9 from Views

Views as an album is based on the Changing seasons of Toronto. the synths on 9 are as icy as the weather. Drum programming is crispy and satisfying. flow and lyrics are great but my favourite part comes at the end w the singing part into the Six Side outro. i love when artists do a “song within a song” and i think repurposing the scrapped outro from OG U With Me was dope and made the whole album feel more cinematic and put together.

So I have to do this with every Drake song I don’t like in detail, and then if someone misses it I have to do it again next time?

Yeah I’ll take the risk of being called a troll man I won’t lose sleep

Because i don’t have a single surface level feeling about all his music, i like some, I dislike some, and I’m anticipating his album hoping I like it, why can’t you accept that?

    After Hours had:

    • better reception
    • more commercial success
    • bigger songs
    • & was a more iconic era in general, a lot of people heavily associate it with the Covid lockdown time

There is literally no argument for Her Loss being considered a classic by more people other than “I like the album better”

drake haters conveniently bring up commercial success when it bolsters their argument but wave it off when it’s used the other way

Maybe read the conversation for context before making dumbass statements. I’ve said numerous times commercial success is a factor in deeming something a classic, but it can’t have commercial success as the ONLY argument

That’s the thing about Her Loss. It’s a very good album. Emphasis on GOOD. Because there’s nothing really extraordinary about it. It’s just very good.

Niggas think you s***ting on an album if you say it’s not a classic. Nah, I like damn near every song on that album

Ok if we are to be real. Is Drake even an artist to be taken seriously?

He’s in the Bruno Taylor Sheeran Gomez etc of artists

No one looks to him to
    Expand or push artistic merit.

I think his reputation has devolved to that over the years but there was a time when he was making some of the best albums in the music industry
