If anything, if he stopped chasing the charts, his music would recover. He’s addicted to industry performance not…just dope s***.

Thats the benefit of being a Wale, Big Sean, BIG KRIT, Wiz or even Kendrick. They knew they couldn’t get #1 so they just have thriving careers in the later years of unimpeachable reputation instead of constant gossip and drama.

he used to be ā€œthe only one known for the musicā€ā€¦now what?

Case in point…I’ve replayed THIS more than any Drake song released in the last 24 months. This came out 2 days ago.

Just drop some laid back cool s***. Stop trying to destroy people you can’t destroy. Just vibe it out bro. Get back to YOU.

…but no, you wanna compete with Bruno Mars

You’re talking about a guy like me who memorized every lyric on COMEBACK SEASON IN 2007!

    WHAT. HAPPENED????

He needs to be true to his zesty self and drop Honestly Nevermind 2.

I think for the last decade, people just wanted him to rap instead of cutting corners with pop. People respected the pop because it afforded dominance and market access, but this is a skills era. We all made excuses for it and said it was ā€œrangeā€ or a host of other terms to detract from a willingness to do the most foundational thing that made him who he is.

    Can Drake compete?

Drake already competed with Scary hours 3 and the Kendrick beef .Drake's goal with iceman is to own the year with great records, not just in the rap genre

Doesn’t matter. The only thing winning right now is quality, not numbers. No one cares.

ā€œGreat recordsā€ take off when people believe in the artist. For example, Beyonce has been in her slop era, but no one is calling it out cause they like Beyonce. The moment that facade slips, people will start being honest about that country album. Act 1 was dope…but everything else for the last near decade aint really it… you know it too.

Drake needs to return to his EFFORT and QUALITY standards. He needs to be willing to forsake success for SKILL.

We have 40 year old rappers winning Grammys. If he can’t compete with them, then the numbers dont matter.

Are you telling me he can’t compete in his 40s? Cause thats the new standard now.

Absolutely not. I want a RAP ALBUM. Period. I want to be clear about this.

We ā€œtoleratedā€ drake branching out and flexing his diversity and willingness to break convention.

    Enough.

Nigga u a grown ass man go make ur own rap album

Everyone doesn’t wanna admit that Drake is a biracial Canadian cornball that’s entire draw was being a blend of rap and rnb. I spent the views to scorpion era echoing the same statement until I started actually making music myself and realized how entitled and stupid I sound demanding for an artist to do something I want. Drake is who he is, I will not change that, and even though there’s the potential for more… maybe he’s fine where he’s at

And then when he did it (DLDT) everyone complained. He has no use making music for his fan base he’s too rich to care to be perceived critically I think we should all just sit back and see what he has in store. It’s almost at this point mentally ill to be this invested

Drake is fighting a social media and PR crisis unlike any modern celebrity has ever faced IMO.

The single best thing he could ever do…is to give the critics a bone:

Make a rap album. Thats literally the one thing people hold against him.

And you know why he wont do it? SPITE. He RESENTS honest criticism and confuses it with attempts to delegitimize him.

Ironically, Joe Budden ended up being right. We need the rapper, not the ā€œpop starā€.

Yeah clearly the solution is a bunch of s***ty pop rap and weird songs with Yeat features

It is. His pop success twisted his public perception and distorted his b-side consumption.

Drake is really the guy on the songs that dont cross over. But everyone knows Drake as the guy on the songs that crossed over.

His career is in the inverse of every other major artist IMO.

The problem with this argument is that we’re in the era of 40 year old award winning rappers.

Drake’s 2nd act won’t be massive pop success. He’s gonna have to rap.

Again, we tolerated it because we saw him as achieving a level of rarefied access and success so he could experiment.

    Fine.

…this aint that. He’s gonna have to remind people why he is who he is.

You can’t ā€œI’m popular and the big guyā€ your way out of this. Especially when you can’t even score knock outs in the streets, the courts, or even properly issue threats.

No one is afraid of him…at least make them respect his artistic credibility…

Trolling and irony isn’t going to save him.

…I want you all to also understand that I’m saying all of this because I really want that elite project from him, but with each misstep, its becoming apparent I’m gonna have to turn the lights off in an already empty shop of fan-dom…
