I think Drake and UMG are going to settle and they give him what he wants
If what Drake is saying in the pre-action is true that opens up a huge can of worms for UMG and Spotify.
@OvOJersey can you help me decipher this document?
Yeah so see below:
"According to the Copyright Act, a digital phonorecord delivery (DPD) is the digital transmission of a sound recording that results in a reproduction that can be identified by the recipient. The reproduction must be stable enough to be perceived, reproduced, or communicated for more than a short time.
DPDs include: Permanent downloads, Limited downloads, and Interactive streams.
However, a DPD is not considered to occur if the transmission is real-time and non-interactive, and no reproduction of the sound recording is made before the recipient receives it.
The Copyright Royalty Judges (CRJs) or a Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) establish rates for DPDs. These rates can be determined through negnegotiations between the affected parties, or by the CRJs or CARP if the parties can't agree".
SO HERE IS WHAT IM SEEING: nobody is saying people don't buy streams viS a viS advertisements and the such like an YouTube auto play of weekends newest song having a commercial about the weekends new song lolol.. AND it seems like the music industry even facilitates this legally (see above). Even when artists and labels pay to do the promoting.. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN IT IS NOT DISCLOSED. See below

SO: the discerning factor here, and what drakes teams banking on, is that they never disclosed the payola being outputted.. which ngl makes sense given the fact that they wanted to keep s*** quiet during the beef.. ladies and gentlemen ngl.. we may actually have a legit complaint here lmaoo.. really depends on disclosures, see below, it's def the theme of the complaint, still reading but im ngl the strat is promising, you really think they disclosed all this s*** publically during the beef? π€π¬π₯΄

Ak's episode where he brings the guy on who confirmed they paid for streams is cited in the complaint lmaoo
That might be what happens because according to the filing, he owns all his masters, has fully recouped the $400M they gave him and only has 1 album left on his deal.
My guess is he'll want out of his deal but I wonder what else he'd want.
They probably didn't think he would take their bluff.
Maybe bigger percentage of money made...maybe he wants a 1 billion dollar contract
Yeah see above it's literally nothing at all completely legit π€£π€£π€£

no way lmaooooooooooooooooooooo

it's pretty normal in these filings to just throw s*** at the wall and see what sticks, and the request is for evidence and maintaining umg records
Itβs funny people bringing up the Spotify Scorpion promo as a βgot yaβ when (despite being heavy handed) that was clearly done out in the open and we could see someone paid for promoβ¦ not secret bot farms inflating streams, although for all we know itβs been something in the past thatβs benefitted him (and other big artists)

Nah I mean it's relevant and pretty consequential to the theory of the case (non disclosure of payola) who knows what'll transpire but imagine an ak testimony? πππ

It's notable that it seems he never wanted to take a legal route but they forced his hand.
Here's a summary from Reddit which might help.

This so chaotic
I'm here for it
@RangerFan9903 @Delete1 @fuego @WINTER we got a GC going wish yall would be apart of it with me , @yesssirrrrrrski , and @LongLiveHipHop
On iMessage?
hopefully dust settles and people realize this is drake going at "the industry" not at kendrick or rap
if kendrick sued his own label it'd be "the hip hop savior sticking up for the little guy" but its drake so its "see this is why drake is bad for hip hop"

I feel like people will get their jokes off tonight but I hope there's some logical discourse about this on various platforms.

If kendrick did it right after losing a beef and referenced a song in the beef that was a huge part of him losing, he'd def be clowned bro come on
