starsixtysevenOne thing I wanna talk about is the fan perspective on how these guys approached the beef
People always side with Kendrick, and this goes way back to Control, because he always throws shots and that’s always exciting because people naturally like drama; and they disguise it as “that’s what hip hop is” or “hip hop is a competitive sport”, and to a certain extent I get that
But the same people ridicule Drake for that post-Control interview where he told them that Kendrick was all buddy buddy with him when he saw him after Control dropped, and if he’s gonna beef with somebody it needs to be real (a sentiment shared by Cole, particularly on Middle Child), but people just say that’s Drake being weak or “not hip hop” which never made any sense to me
Even now nobody really knows why Kendrick hates Drake or what made him wanna diss Drake in like that, you could argue it was the same mindset he had back during control of starting s*** just to start s***, you can back that up with the “tough love” lyrics on the last track, indicating it was all for sport and not really serious despite the allegations and shots thrown
But for me, I find drakes perspective of “let the beef be real” more respectable than Kendrick’s “imma just throw shots”
Is it really hip hop to start beef for the sake of beef?
Those same people will be calling Pac the greatest but will ignore the fact that he die because of real beef. Back then if a nigga shot at you on a track you had to wear a vest for real.
