verse 1 is about Drake’s current state. he’s on top of the game and he and everyone else knows it.

next we hear a failed call attempt. this may be a stretch, but it could be interpreted as drake attempting to “call”/find his old self, the teenage drake known as aubrey graham. though most people can see their younger selves within their current form, drake struggles to reconcile his current self with the young, eager, emotional aubrey. the beat switches at this point.

verse 2 goes on to talk about the days when aubrey was making 50 grand playing jimmy brooks and living a middle class lifestyle. the idea of a rap career was just a dream. aubrey almost took part in a phone scam in order to finance his studio time in those days.

before verse 3 a voicemail about drake being “fried” snaps us back to the present day. drake talks about his habit of crossfading to distract from his new reality. he is shocked at how every improbable factor came together and allowed him to become the unquestioned king of rap. but as is usual with drake you can feel some remorse at what he may have lost in the process.

Tour numbers told me everything I needed to know. Lmao.

1) Drake is for sure gonna reup and get him a 600-700m contract soon

2) we as fans prob gonna get another 4-5 projects from him before it’s all said and done

I knew the tour $ was gonna be nice but not this insane
