Pains me to say it, but the Kelela album from this year was a slight disappointment. It’s not a bad album, but it’s the first time she has put out a project that isn’t a completely new sound. I was excited about the prospect of a more rock-leaning album, but she only dabbled in the sound and kind of retreated into her regular club sound.

Another one that was much more disappointing was the Ravyn Lenae album. Her first two albums are some of the best R&B albums this decade and the new one is a significant drop-off in quality.

Earl Sweatshirt & MIKE - Pompeii / Utility - big fan of both artists, but the album was kinda lame. Earl’s Lucki impersonation is getting egregious.

I wasn't really thinking about this album as a disappointment until I heard Steve Lacy's feature on Badu's album and just thought why does steve lacy sound a lot better on here than on his own album? and the feature badu has on his album is highkey one of the low points of that album. But mainly, the juvenile aspects of his lyrics really be taking me out of the immersion on this project moreso than previous ones.

Rap has had good releases but didn't set me alight overall

But the more it sat with me the more I just...yeah just can't give it as high praises as I did at the top of its release. It's disappointing because yes, Earl and MIKE are spitting and dropping some gems (tho MIKE saying "it'll be you on that shirt" is kinda funny but hey it's cool) but I just rather wish we woulda got a whole evilgiane tape.
