like 12 feet high, originally meant for a cathedral. Dali considered it his masterpiece apparently. infinitesimal detail.

haven't really browsed through the thread but just in case nobody has mentioned Goya's pinturas negras.
some of the most astonishing pieces i've seen and hopefully I get to see them in real life one day. to me it's not necessarily the paintings themselves but the circumstances of his life that lead to him painting these that happen to be so interesting and give the paintings a different life.
