I just started with twists really. Didn't wash my hair for a month so I could let my hair adjust to the twists and not revert. I used a spray bottle with water and oil to keep my scalp moisturized and clean. Durags, bonnets, etc are going to be your best friends. A lot of it is really just patience all there is to it.
My recommendations for oils to use are: tea treat, vitamin e, aloe vera, and peppermint oil.
Don't get discouraged because it doesn't look the way you thought it would or it's taking long. It's all a process forreal. If I get a chance I'll post my before/after too so you can get an idea

Did ya locs thicken up a lot wit the two strand twist method? That’s what I’m hoping wit mine lowkey. I had my first set but I was doing retwists myself, too often, and alternating between interlocking and palm roll so needless to say my s*** was thinning. Also had a cyst issue that contributed and ultimately combed them out (took like 10 days lmao) but I started my new set in January. Jus a lil impatient in the beginning stages. I don’t even really understand retwisting since they don’t hold long enough to loc new growth to me (they last like 2-3weeks average) but Don wanna interlock again and f*** my s*** up

My hair has normally been thick so I didn't really notice much a difference there. Honestly you don't have to retwist all that much. As long as you still got your sections and all that you're good to go. Your hair will just keep growing, will eventually start to lock on its own within it's section, which will lead to a thicker base. Which could be a good thing if that's what you're looking for.
At this point with retwists I only get it done once every like...10 weeks or so? If I feel I really need to retwist I'll just do something quick out the shower and I'm good to go
