pop music used to be everyone's business, now it's a niche for girls and gäys and heavily catering to it. and everything is just mehh.. been done before and better

You know what...just finished listening to RAYE's album, and there were a few songs I was able to get into. Particularly in the back half like Nightingale Lane, Skin & Bones, Fields. I Know You're Hurting was a nice one. I can see why people like WHERE IS MY HUSBAND.

Her style isn't really for me, it seems like a lot going on just for the sake of it, but the effort and care she takes with her work is noticeable and admirable. I'd be interested to know what others think if anyone checks it out lol

Eh. I think she can have a genuine interest and desire to work within and showcase the styles that she uses. The editing (or lack thereof) is more my issue.

Just to compare to the last big pop example, I wouldn't praise ROSALÍA's ambition and then downplay RAYE's attempt at it. They're both going for it. It's just a matter of taste at the end of the day I guess. It's getting plenty of praise from fans and critics.
