Really it's the gimmick of the dumb f***ing hats (crystallization) that kills my enthusiasm for this gen.

Someone told me I don't have to use it, but every f***ing trainer I come across will.
So you still see it and deal with it, and you probably get incentivised to use it.

I will agree the starters have looked good though, wish they weren't wasted on the gimmick. They should stop doing them.

It's not weird at all. They did a interview a while back on Primarina and said it goes against Game Freak design philosophy of keeping starter Pokemon designs gender neutral, they only did it because they just couldn't come up with a design for Primarina and wanted a singer. They don't want people feeling like "Oh I can't like this Pokemon because it's to feminine". The devs themselves are subconscious about stuff like that.

I have no problem with it being feminine. But think it's another one of those crazy design choices like Samurott.
