To be fair, before Legends, Pokemon took logic and canon very serious. They even went out the way to show how it's two different timelines after ORAS came out. This was to show that ORAS timeline with Megas isn't the same as the timeline from the original Sapphire and Ruby. They did this because fans where noticing how ORAS had way to many redesigns to characters and making other characters look drastically different.

So yeah, logic has always been in Pokemon. That's why people have been making fun of PLA having high tech in feudal Sinnoh/Japan, as it's suppose to be a prequel to Diamond and Pearl. Two games that didn't have cell phones.
