What are the go to Pokémon to be catching at the start of the game? I started with piplup and haven’t played a Pokémon game for a while
Finding myself dropping this then coming back, etc. Get bored of it very fast.
Are they gonna introduce a ranked online battle system? Like where you have a profile and you’re “silver, gold, etc” rank?
Nope. Won't have online banking until Gen 9 next November. They are going to patch the GTS back in tho so who knows what they're gonna do with BDSP.

Shinx
Starly
Budew
Abra
Geodude
Onix
Zubat
Machop
Once you get to the town with the second gym the underground open up and you get access to alot more pokemon especially once you start getting statues.

When you get to eterna city and unlock the underground, spend some time down there for Houndoom or Absol both are very good (Absol if you picked chimchar houndoom if you picked the other ones)
Starly and shinx are really useful too

I dont think gen 9 is coming until 2023

No Gen 9 is definitely coming November 2022. They been started development on Gen 9 immediately after Sword and Shield development wrapped up. That's why no DLC is planned for BDSP or Legends. Legends is a main series game, but it's basically a beta for Gen 9. From the people I know that's played Legends has said that Legends can be really fun but get boring really quickly. Gen 9 is set to release Q4 2022. It'll probably be a break during 2023.

I hope thats not true legends looks terrible
Praying it isnt the same engine as sword and shield

It's true lol Legends is basically a beta for Gen 9. While Gen 9 won't be an exact replica of Legends, it will be very legends-esque. Don't be shocked when Legends is pretty barren. Gen 9 will be on the same design style as legends.

thats pretty much why I DIDN'T want Gen 4 remade in SWSH design style. SWSH design style is really boring and ugly. Way too much brown.

3D was a mistake
Sprite art couldve been next level by now if we stayed on that path.

For those unfamiliar with the project.
Gen 7 and BDSP to an extent are the only mainline 3D games in the series with style imo.

Oh trust me, I wish Pokemon stayed Sprite base. 3D hasn't been good at all for Pokemon. Gamefreak was able to be more expressive with Pokemon when they were sprites.
2023 break
It'll be similar to what 2020 was for SWSH. Maybe DLC, maybe nothing. But Gen 9 is definitely coming out Q4 2022.

Yeah, I believe them keeping a top down view should have stayed the norm. The Chibis grew on me. I thought it looked goofy lol

Yeah you bump into everything. I think, and this is my personal theory. I believe they started out keeping the game grid base, but changed their mind late into development. If you notice NPCs are all still on a grid. Because they changed it late they didn't change the environment to match the free movement.

Yea I updated my game already. Before the update if I went to put in a link code it always blocked me and said I had to update to go online
I just duped as much as I could and updated a couple days ago

I went in to the Battle Tower thinking it would be as smooth as the Battle Tree for me but nah lol, looks like i gotta teambuild for real, and the old fashioned way without any duping
