It literally improves everything wrong with Gen 2 and even add content. Play Pokemon Red++ as well. Made by the same person. That's how I now play my marathons now. I just play enhanced fan games. The main series games get boring.

I love the comp of sw/sh tbh. Love how different the meta & strats are for comp more so than any other VGC gen. Max sucks in singles but its a really dope tool in doubles.

I started singles in gen 5 on smogon & vgc in gen 6 on cart.

For VGC it would be XY + ORAS > SW/SH > Sun/moon + Ultras for me.

I hated sun moon era s*** was TOO wild

Now we're gonna probably get DM/PL Remakes for year 2 of gen 8 & that s*** gonna be fire

You should play some of the Gen 4 and 5 hacks. The graphics in Pokenon unbound are amazing for a Gen 3/4 hybrid game.

I havent really kept up with any dray hacks since BB/VW2 so yea im excited to check these new releases out. I like the ogs but they are def a little dated.

I been satisfied with Unbound and Polished Crystal for a while tho.
