Yes it’s part of their algorithm to put you on long losing streaks and long winning streaks every now and then. If you come back to the app after not playing for a while you are guaranteed a win

I’ve not gotten a single gold card still since this game launched

I don’t believe this, there’s no way you’re guaranteed to win if you just make s***ty plays, plus what if it’s that other first person‘s time back?

The easiest way to see what I mean is how fast you progress through the ranks in ranked mode. Whether you have a what should be a really OP deck or an average one, your win rate is going to be the same for both.

The pattern I noticed which they probably use based on gambling psychology is that it will have you go on very long losing streaks with wins once in awhile. And then all of a sudden you will go on a win streak to progress to the next rank. The progression feels unnatural and unrelated to how “good” your deck is. It’s just made to keep you playing.

Best example I have as far as what that looks like in game is when I made a deck with Celebi/serperior that statistically should be one of the best in the game and was definitely much better than the deck I was using before. But whenever I played it, the game would just front load my deck with a bunch of training cards and statistically impossible coin flips that are conveniently in/not in my favor. Not to mention it would pair me with very high level players regardless of my low rank
