Haven’t run this front to back in YEARRSSSSS. Like since highschool probably, gonna just do a live reaction review.

Crawl: forgot this was even on this album lmaooo this is a very good intro. Gambino’s production choices post CAMP are so solid.

Worldstar: haven’t heard this in forever. This song reminds me of exactly when I first heard this in math class freshman year. Kinda the beginning of his social commentary with his brief singing about not wanting to be on worldstar.

Dial Up/Worst Guys: Jesus this whole album isn nostalgia trip. What do y’all think she needed? I always thought it was d***. Or all she needed was some “d..” the main melody synth this in the background makes me happy. Turns out DG has performance anxiety just like me! Guitar solo outro also makes me happy. The 2013 trap drums kinda sticks out on the beat but i see what they were going for I don’t mind

Shadows: always loved the production on this track. Whole album is really taking me back like a time capsule rn. I will say idk what bro talking about most of the time, I can’t remember if this whole album is in character in relation to that screenplay. Anyways always liked this song frfr. Outro kinda unnecessary especially after the last song had a guitar outro too. Maybe this the sinister version of the last song.

Telegraph Ave: classic. Ain’t got much to say. This one actually doesn’t sound dated or aged at all to me. Maybe bc I still listen to it a lot. Love this song. Interesting how you can hear production elements that’ll become more prevalent in his later music on this song in particular. Bigger emphasis on his singing and those tribal esque drums/synths(?)

Sweatpants: 9th grade classic lol his Asian bars so f***ing strange. Classic music video tho. I can’t imagine bumping this unironically atp in my life tho.

3005: classic, yeah very 2013 but it’s a good song. Should have been bigger imo. It’s such a solid pop rap song makes you feel good. Also love the sentiment.

Playing around before the party/ the party: the party is hard as f***. The interlude is actually kinda setting the mood nicely rn but I’m ready for the raps. Song always sounded like some Andre 3000 s*** with his cadence when singing at the beginning and the production. Honestly even his flow at the start of his rapping is kinda reminiscent of 3K.

No exit: Is this Miguel singing on this? Or Thundercat? Sounds like them heavy . Maybe it’s just Donald. Love the oppressive bass on this joint. Love the like element that comes in around 1:25 that sounds like some laughing percussion or something. Never disliked this song but I’m really f***ing with it today. Weird bc you can say it’s kinda 2013 dated but he makes his s*** just weird enough that it’s not exactly a detriment.

Death by numbers: didn’t even know this was on the album lmao cool interlude I guess

Flight of the navigator: commit die music. just hold me close my darling I’m a sucker for atmospheric acoustic music and that stuttering “woooo wee” soundbite is fire as f***. Imma be real I’m not paying much attention to the narrative or lyrics during this listen but I am vibing.

Zealots of Stockholm: these last two tracks are highlights always loved them. When the beat drops into Free Information and he start FLOWING I used to blast this s*** at obnoxious levels. Never really gave it thought till now but his basslines on this album are nasty as f***.

Urn: love this song one of my favorites to this day. Used to make me so emotional off the vibe alone. Was in my sleep playlist back in the day. Great lil r&b track. Wish this was longer and that he would return to this sound again with more confidence.

Pink toes: rainbows sunshine happy fun summer sunshine production. Love Jhene on this. Good cocaine song. Think the main character gets arrested or shot on this song at the end? Or dies or something. Idk.

Earth: The Oldest Computer: f***ing sick. Honestly I wanna see him tackle the variety of sounds he did on this album again. Electro synth bass heavy s*** it’s fun. Kinda reminds me of Daft Punk at times (everything reminds me of daft punk) Production kinda carries outside of the chorus by Azealia and CG. The last 90 seconds GPOY part is so 2013 but also slaps then he starts hitting those high notes ecstasy.

Life: was always a highlight for me loved this beat. Having the trolled leaked verison that cut the last like 90 seconds off back in the day >>>

Overall: this is a nostalgia classic. Some parts aged fairly well, some sound dated. It’s a good album though I never understood the hate for this album.

Highlights: Pink Toes, Life, Shadows, Telegraph Ave, Urn, 3005, No Exit

Sorry for the length @Extraterrestrial @op

I like his voice. I just wish he held back on the full blown screams sometimes. Except for on Digging In - that’s when they felt justified, that’s a great sound of disgust and rage. That song made an impact for me. First 2 tracks had some really nice, catchy moments too. The outro was cool too. The other songs annoyed me for some reason. I don’t know if it was the screaming or something else but I just couldn’t get into them. But again, when there was melodic little turn, his voice was satisfying in that nostalgic pop punk way. Mixed bag for me, 5/10

    David Bowie - Low

I’ve listened to Bowie here and there and always liked his music but have never done a discography run or heard this album. Excited to be assigned it.

    1. Speed of Life - really feeling the guitar melody on this and the instrumentation in general . And the discordant sounds that come in midway are slightly jarring but fit absolutely perfectly. Love the progression, would listen to this over and over again. 10/10.
    2. Breaking Glass - drums take center stage, sounding crisp. Vocals mesh perfectly. The electronic synths are so satisfying. Perfect song. “You’re such a wonderful person, but you’ve got problems” yeah he was able to put that feeling into song. 10/10

    3. What in the World - this one is a little too discordant for me, not pleasant at all to listen to tbh. I could see it growing over time after many listens but after the instant strength of the first two tracks, this one is too jarring imo. Ehhhhh 6/10

    4. Sound and Vision - ok we back, melody an earworm right off the bat. Not sure what instrument comes in (maybe still a prog synth) but it sounds amazing with the background melody. Humming is on point and would make kid Cudi blush. Vocals are perfect again. Would listen to this on repeat. “Drifting into my solitude, over my head” 10/10

    5. Always Crashing in the Same Car - another infectious melody, great progression and lyrics. Vocals perfect again. Bowie just is able to craft tracks that you can listen to forever tbh. The instruments complement each other and the vocals here so perfectly despite being far from usual. “I’m always crashing in the same car, doo doo doo” I love how much he lets the instrumentals breathe on this album too. Another 10/10.
    6. Be My Wife - more perfect instrumentation and vocal complementation. This album is a masterpiece so far apart from track 3. 10/10

    7. A New Career in Town - another foot tapper. I like the instrumentation a lot, but not as exciting and interesting as what came previously tbh. 7.5/10

    8. Warszawa & Art Decade - Hmm, these made me miss the first half of the album a lot. I like them for what they are, I mean they are soothing and sound good but in the context of the album they kind of fall a bit flat for me. Not as many interesting sounds. The songs almost sound like they would be part of a study/sleep playlist but half sort of unsettling almost lynchian overtones. I’m going to give them a generous 5/10 because they don’t contextually fit for me though I may have rated higher if I didn’t hear the first half of the album.

    9. Weeping Wall - the progression is back, this sounds a lot more fitting and maybe more what the previous two songs should have been like for this album. I love the melody and the almost Halo theme music like vocals at parts. 8.5/10

    10. Subterraneans - Another one that sounds good, nice soundscape and synths but it’s just missing something for me that was present on most of the album. The saxophone solo is fantastic though. Hardest one to decide what I want to rate it. 6.5/10

The first half of this album is genius. Every song except one is 10/10, quite an achievement and what else really sounded like this in the late 70s? Original, unique and refreshing. Probably will listen to Bowie’s discography now just off this album because those songs are so great. The second half of the album is weaker than the first half by far but still good for what it is. Sounds like two different albums and I’m not really sure I’d return to most of the second half apart from adding it to a study/sleep music playlist. But man that first half, though. Perfection.

    8/10 overall.

This is peak theatre kid music. It sounded like a soundtrack to a musical. No doubt they can play their instruments and compose "epic" sounding instrumentals. But this is all technical skill without any substance. I felt nothing during the entire listen. I did feel really annoyed whenever those screeching vocals came in though, especially in tracks 4 & 5. Im just going to pass it off as me not understanding it. Maybe you can explain the appeal to me. Sorry for hating on this.

Lmao i felt bad for whoever got this cuz i know theyd dislike it i did too at first. The vocals were the biggest stumbling block for me

For me the appeal is how it just sounds completely unique and in its own world, it's like listening to a weird alien ritual opera. Really hypnotic immersive atmosphere, i think the compositions are also amazing its just not in a typical way. Really pushes the boundaries on what rock music is. Probably not my favorite album from them but its the one i started with

Devon Hendryx - The Ghost Pop

a small tidbit: When I was first listening to it I was like "dam this guy sounds pretty inspired by Dev Hynes/JPEGMAFIA and then I looked him up a bit more and turns out this is Peggy under a different alias

Now on to the album itself. Well what can I say, If u told me that he had made this tape while on meth or some type of heavy substance I'd believe it because that's what I also felt I was on while listening to this Lyrically/vocally this seems a bit all over the place, from random moaning on couple songs to a WWE commentary clip to some rapping to a melancholic call me maybe cover and more Production wise it feels sluggish and some of it could be in a mario64 stage or somn I guess the album cover kinda fits the overall vibe the sound is going for if that makes sense Initially I only enjoyed 1 song but afterwards i found 2/3 more to be aight. The call me maybe cover is eh....

JPEGMAFIA is one of those artists that I never quite gave a chance and listened to a full project of his yet but I do enjoy 1539 N.Calvert. I guess if ur already a fan of his nothing on here really surprises you that much? I'm curious as to what u really enjoy on all of this

    I'm feeling a strong 4 to a light 5
Fav songs: Behold! A Pale Horse, God Bless my Homegirls and Bubblegum Crisis (mostly because of the production).

2017-2019 by Against All Logic @DJ7A7A

kinda hard to know what to say about this after only 1 listen ngl, feel like i haven't really wrapped my head around what he's doing. I did listen to the first Against All Logic release when it came out but this one feels a lot less straightforward. it's still house i guess but its less the kind of deep house that I already had a background in that made AAL 2012-2017 enjoyable to me. Nicolas Jaar has always been one of those artists who I can appreciate and see the huge talent but some of it just goes over my head. That being said I still did enjoy this project, and definitely more than some of his more ambient(?) stuff that I just couldn't get into at all. His production is always really impressive and this album is no exception, just feels a bit abrasive to me sometimes instead of smooth like the stuff I liked more from him (which isn't necessarily a bad thing tbf). It's never bad tho, either I was enjoying these songs or just letting them pass by me without much feeling either way.

ill give a 7/10 for the first impression I guess, gonna need to give this a few more listens tho. the first AAL album was probably like a 8.5/10 for me

His production is always really impressive and this album is no exception, just feels a bit abrasive to me sometimes instead of smooth like the stuff I liked more from him (which isn't necessarily a bad thing tbf). It's never bad tho, either I was enjoying these songs or just letting them pass by me without much feeling either way.

ill give a 7/10 for the first impression I guess, gonna need to give this a few more listens tho. the first AAL album was probably like a 8.5/10 for me

    i agree
i do enjoy his more laid back house stuff too
also those ambient projects he put out aint it

    Making Time by Jamie Woon

This album was a nice smooth listen, very relaxing vocals, nice smooth instrumentals. Something you could just play in the background and enjoy.

    7.5/10

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones

Was only able to give this one a quick listen, but I'm curious enough to explore it and break it down further - just too busy lately. I appreciate its lightness, sweetness and simplicity. On first glance I'll give it a 7.5/10. I liked Don't Know Why, Feelin the Same Way and the title track a lot. For some reason, this album makes me want to listen to the album Trouble by Ray Lamontagne
