u need to throw that flights booked on...
The review’s not surprising if you’ve been following Pitchfork the past year. For some reason they, alphonse especially, hate the Kendrick and Drake beef and are trying everything in their power to convince you it’s boring and contrived.
Respectfully..... Your review is absolute dogshit and you reek of self importance. Coming into a forum to DOUBLE DOWN on your s*** review is hilarious. Your reasonings are paper thin and you really shouldn't have been given the task to review this album for a major publication, You don't have the credentials for it, Your review is 90% b****ing about the ARTIST 5% projection of insecurity and another 5% of hipster self masturbation (Oh my god Kendrick should have had THESE producers on the album) nigga you ain't Kendrick, You don't even make music nigga,
EVERYBODY HAS "YEARS spent listening to and studying music" WHAT makes you special? nothing bro except for the fact you have no actual skills other than being able to write 1000 words and say absolutely NOTHING of substance other than expose your s*** taste and palette for art.
"Coming on the heels of the beef, though, the regionality of the album seems more like an elaborate gotcha to Drake rather than a musical pivot sparked out of passion"
Who thinks like that? You really think Kendrick from compton, LA, california, west coast his whole career made a west coast inspired album because of some stupid beef with Drake? and then you have the audacity to imply that this album isn't passionately made?
Log off of twitter, take whatever liberal arts bullshit college writing degree that your parents money paid for and shove it up your ass bro, respectfully though.
nigga mad as hell kendrick made a drake diss victory lap album
i dont agree with the score i woulda did 7.5-8.0 but #istandwithalphonse
Not surprising, knew this album was going to be loved by the public and hated by the critics as soon as I heard it. His first album that you can’t make the critic bait argument for
Look, I get it. Not everyone is going to agree with my take, and that’s part of the job. When I review an album, I’m not writing to confirm your bias or cater to fandoms—I’m giving you my honest perspective, backed by years of listening to and studying music. That’s the gig.
Kendrick is undeniably one of the most important artists of our time, but not everything he drops is above critique. GNX is ambitious, no doubt, but ambition doesn’t automatically equal greatness. My review wasn’t about tearing him down; it was about engaging with the music critically. If that didn’t line up with your feelings about the album, cool—we’re allowed to disagree.
But let’s be real: the energy some of y’all bring to these threads makes it clear you don’t want reviews; you want validation. That’s not what I’m here for. Let the music speak for itself, and if you think I’m off the mark, fine—but at least try to engage with the points instead of coming with pitchforks. Respectfully.
lmfao dude why are you here?
also i don’t really feel like this is that ambitious of an album and that’s kind of the point?
it’s just uncomplicated technically inspired/confident songs that (i feel at least) his discography has been sorely lacking for a while now.
Also i take umbrage with what you said about “affirming biases” because yeah sure people do that but you’re also shielding yourself with that statement because frankly a lot of your critique feels off base to me.
Like you said earlier your criticism is not above criticism
Do you regards actually think that’s Alphonse account
Gonna rename myself Anthony Fantano once his review drops
No matter how you slice it the album wasnt a very good kendrick lamar album.
production, songwriting, and themes are a step down from his usual work and it's painfully obvious this entire project was tossed together in the last 4 months or so to capitalize on his momentum
way too much west coast pandering, samey flows and beats, fishing for memes. it all reeks of opportunistic bullshit and not something I'd expect from Kendrick Lamar
Alphonse Pierre is a prime example of someone who doesn’t actually like rap and just attaches to it to look cool and gain some attention/identity
i.e exact ppl mad about everything kendrick said during the beef
@cold you know it’s kinda pathetic that you’re here right?
really f***ing funny that you googled your own review and came across a thread on it tho
