i love music just as much as everybody on this site, but i could never see myself working for a publication like Pitchfork. it just seems like a chore
This and Keep It Like a Secret, depends who u ask
Most out there for sure tho
surely TNWWL is at least on the level of praise of those two

making lists, we like to make lists, so do they
as long as you don't let the critics of your criticism get to you seems dope
the point is they're paid to do it. also sounds like a job a lot of people may enjoy.

imma become the Latino Alphonse Pierre
"Pitchfork’s staff spent more than seven months poring over thousands of albums and songs in the making of this package, a series of lists and interviews that try to encapsulate some of our favorite music of a formative decade. The process included several rounds of voting between staff and contributors, and hours upon hours of “listening rooms” where the staff debated the merits of one song against another. There were more spreadsheets and impassioned Slack debates than anyone would like to admit, extensive conversations about the “critical pick” vs. the “fan favorite” vs. the “holistically beloved.” You try battling out Elliott Smith’s catalog, or OutKast’s, or A Tribe Called Quest’s, or Björk’s. (As your luck would have it, you’ll actually be able to do just that in a few days: Stay tuned for our ’90s Music Battle game and experience the agony of deciding between your own favorites.)"
can you imagine listening to music like this. whats the point lmfao
i get what you mean
but like it's better than just saying "classic" or "trash" and getting mocked for effortposting in full paragraphs (well, they do too actually, but it's for money)
I assumed everyone agreed with me that TNWWL was clearly their most canonical album tbh
I feel vindicated by KILAS pulling ahead, it's always been my favorite, but the two albums preceding it are just as worthy for different reasons.
KILAS probably gets a bump with time because it's so accessible yet doesn't skimp on the jammy Neil Young influenced side of their music entirely. Very balanced and easy to digest album. Plus, it has Carry the Zero, which is one of the best songs ever.

i picked up the VMP variant when it dropped on vinyl and it sounds goregous. idk why they decided to retroactively change the artwork of all their albums though it's so stupid
