I agree forsure but I think some people would have a hard time calling let’s say good kid maad city a classic just because of its age. Lots of modern day classics have come out the past 10 years.
I dont think it's too soon to consider GKMC a classic.
Is it a perfect album tho?
Maybe.
See that’s a perfect example where I’d prefer a classic album over a “perfect” album. I think igor is just okay imo.
In a sense of musical purity like if a music professor listened to it they wouldn’t say it’s perfect because of an obvious flaw: he’s technically not a good singer
But I see it as perfect because of personal experience and feelings

GKMC is better than most 90s rap classics anyway
Even MBDTF wouldn’t be considered perfect if you look at it with a lens of musical purity, it has mistakes
This is what I mean though like who are you to judge it’s “musical purity”. I think you have to call it a perfect classic due to no skips, hits, impact, the era it was released and just how grand everything about it was.

This is why I dont rank it with LR.
They are not the same.
Kanye has 1 "Classic" in the sense of having a perfect album.

I don’t really care about the era it’s just amazing music makes me feel like I elevated

Classic shouldn’t be perfect most classics I wouldn’t call perfect

All Of The Lights is hella weak tho.
I dont think it's too soon to consider GKMC a classic.

Maybe.
What else would you call a classic in the last 10 or so years? I’m just curious because your original post was mainly older tapes.

All of the lights is the best

I think so. For a long time I thought it was a 9 due to that one hook (u know) but it aged like fine wine.
Honestly the whole ass album aged like fine wine. It's like what 6 years old now? Def old enough to be in this discussion

Still a hit. Definitely not weak on first listen either. I agree it got very old quick though
Classic shouldn’t be perfect most classics I wouldn’t call perfect
But when I'm looking at the greatest Hip Hop albums, the GOATs, the perfect examples of what Hip Hop is, Ye only has one 5 mic classic.

I don’t consider it a 10 because i feel like TPAB is so much above it

But part of the reason why it’s great music is because of the influence it takes from other music
Like I named Stankonia but it’s influenced by like 10 diff genres

Stankonia is influenced by a ton of genres but still very much a Hip Hop album.
It definitely broadens the scope of what Hip Hop can be.....which is what makes it a classic.
But idk if it's a perfect album.

I disagree. If we’re talking strictly hip hop, late registration AND college dropout both qualify. Both of those are straight timeless. The beats are straight classic. I’d even argue Graduation could be up there for a “perfect” tape but it’s not core hip hop if u feel me.

Not all hip hop but my take is
Most too new to really tell but I can see all of these being considered this tier by 2025
