Some good music I see here.
Well, it is a predominantly rap forum.
So then why post this s*** here
We come here to discuss rap, I can assure you almost everyone listens to other kinds of music, it’s just weirdos like you make up this false narrative to try to feel high and might and put down rap music. Even if someone only listened to rap, who gives a f***? There’s so many different sounds within rap that it’s completely reasonable primarily listen to it if one chooses to do so
This is just subtle “rap isn’t real art” bullshit
F*** you
They always act like it's some sort of racist narrative when someone says this stuff too. Has nothing to do with it.
It is absolutely a lowkey racist narrative. Yall only do this with rap ON A RAP FORUM
Notice how OP only used rap as an example? Y'all don't do this s*** with other genres even tho it should be done with every genre
- BRAVEKACs getting annoyed that Pop isn’t on top anymore. Rap always getting shat on and will get worse the longer “The Box” is on top of the Billboard 100 not saying this applies to OP but it’s how a lot of people feel.
I mean it’s a rap forum & rap is the most popular genre
not hard to see why
true but if you’ve ever had a conversation about music outside of KTT, this is still a common talking point with only rap ever being brought up. nobody criticizes pop, rock, or EDM fans for only listening to those genres
would you rather be extremely knowledgeable about one genre or pretty well-versed in a variety of genres?
the answer depends on how much you enjoy that one genre imo
for me, i love hip hop (including R&B) 1000x more than my next favorite genre, and as someone raised primarily around white people who hated rap, i can say i’m familiar enough with Rock, Pop, and EDM to make this judgement
people who venture out into weird genres were never true hip hop heads imo. what you doing telling me Nas aint the GOAT while you bumping animal collective and s***. foh dweeb

lmfao you need to talk to more people
all genres get this
lmfao you need to talk to more people

this is KTT so we talk in hyperbole
ofc all genres get this, but it’s been disproportionately more common to bring up about rap for decades
maybe that’s dying down now that rap is solidified as the dominant genre in America, but you can’t ignore the history of it

this exact same conversation is a common debate even within rap,
“you only listen to conscious rap” “you only listen to mumble rap”
every subset of music has conversations like this.
I grew up listening to rap, around rap music, seeing people constantly fight to get that typical pop/rock bullshit out of the mainstream. Now that rap’s in that place & the same thing is happening. It’s a cycle.
If all you’ve ever known is rap then of course you’re only gonna acknowledge when people when people talk about it, even though there’s plenty to talk about in other genres.
its ok, especially considering that at one point in their lives they will probably listen to other genres as well

- BRAVEI respect that Bucky. You do have a good taste. Nice to see that you do branch out. In general, I feel like you are one of the most positive users when it comes to trying new genres and listening to unfamiliar music. So I gotta hand that to you.

Keep Hating

But for real though to each his own. Saying that liking other genre's makes you less of a hip hop fan just seems like a toxic way of viewing art and people in general. Just comes off to me that you're saying that you have to fit a certain "mold" to be a hip hop fan which is lame gatekeeping. Your favorite producer didn't find dope samples by only checking out hip hop music.

- BRAVEEnded OPs thread right away, leaving it now

You didn't read the comeback argument though.
Stop.
some of y’all are very weird for how you’re interpreting OP
They are insecure about their music tastes.
