hungryhippo69really enjoyed this one, saw it on 70mm in nyc a few weeks ago. pta is my all time favorite filmmaker.
thought the asian bit was unnecessary and without it the film would’ve been 100% perfect.Ion wanna play devils advocate but based off you saying the film would be perfect without the Asian jokes, I have to ask:
What’s worse, the Asian jokes or the fact the movie is based on a 25 year old having relations with a 15 year old?

Just watch the movie, you’ll wrap your head around it once you see it. On paper it may sound weird but it works. They don’t cross the line.

But saying that is like saying “well the Asian jokes is ok because at least the Asian person didn’t get lynched”

I just notice as a society we fell as if we can’t dislike two things at the same time and still hold valid points towards both.
I noticed this with the whole Biden VS Trump. A lot of people didnt want to believe that both trump and Biden are racist. It was a pick and choose who to dislike while liking the other.

It’s because there’s almost nothing sexual about their relationship in the movie and it’s more of like a big sis/lil bro typa relationship w a little mild flirting
Also asian s*** getting more flack prolly cause of the current climate more than anything w all the Asian hate from corona

There’s no line that’s crossed, and there’s nothing but the right intentions. It would surprise me if there was some kind of kerfuffle about it, because there’s not that much there. That’s not the story that we made, in any kind of way. There isn’t a provocative bone in this film’s body.

There’s def like a romantic element to their relationship but it’s like very childish from both sides
like you never had any older girl homies who would like take care of you at parties n s*** or try n fight your exes etc it’s kinda like that kinda vibe

She plays hard to get with him but he’s a 15 year old child actor who has so much going on (auditioning, starting businesses) and s***-ton of charm that she just gets sucked into falling for him. I never took the age gap too seriously cause they never cross the line, like Proper said it was nothing but the right intentions and also PTA stated this is his take on a Screwball comedy concept.
