And 5 years ago you wouldn’t have had that issue because you hadn’t been informed that you’re supposed to feel that way. Wait till you watch Body Double, ya gonna have a field day with that one.
no fidelio thats not how i thought 5 years ago
i saw mykki blanco in a gay club in 2013 just to entertain this post but it doesnt really matter
No because it wasn’t abuse and nobody thinks this but Elric. The entire internet thinks that scene to this day is funny.
nobody thinks quentin tarantino as a pedo rapist character sucking toes isn't gross

It’s a funny scene. Everyone thinks that except you.
I take you it don’t like Italian Giallos cause it’s the same s*** as those. It’s inherently absurd. It’s an exploitation film with slick direction. It’s dirty and mean.
Nope I've like quite a few. They aren't always horrible.
If you understood how chauvinistic Italy was you wouldn't think films that are dirty and mean toward women were so f***im awesome. That Bertolucci Brando thing was probably just the tip of the iceberg.
“Here’s why your favorite directors are bad people, don’t take issue with my gross misrepresentation of them and their work.”

Dude Polanski the definite child rapist is one of my all-time favorites but I still don't feel like a piece of s*** when I watch his films because he knows how to write real characters with depth

Maybe watching a blatant exploitation movie where an older woman rubs her t*** in the shower in the first minute wasn’t the right choice for date night.

No because I can take things in context from when and where they were created and not finger wag about the content. I also don’t impose American academic moral values onto other countries. What a bizarre culture we’re living where the most heinous of hardcore p***ography is deemed empowering to some 18 year old just getting into the industry but a fantasy exploitation movie from 40 years ago is beyond the pale of decency.

It's not date night when you live with together and she loved Carrie so
I didn't know it was an exploitation film and also this is beside any point isn't it

Sadistic giallo
Pauline Kael is rolling in her grave. Art isn’t about what is being communicated but HOW it is communicated. De Palma sure knows how to direct the hell out of a film. He can make the most ugly and repulsive side of humanity look stylish. When asked why he films women the way he does he says the camera likes the way they walk. Cinema is inherently voyeuristic.

Dude I watch silent films constantly you don't think I can place things within their time? S*** felt archaic even for 1980
I saw a Billy Wilder film from the early 60s the other day and they tiptoed around the implication that a black dude might have stole a car because that's what you're supposed to do when youre powerful white people in Hollywood that don't want to further any stereotypes. Blatantly being like yep let's make the group of rapists black gangsters in 1980
don't know how you can defend this s***

I have more Pauline Kael books than you and that b**** didn't know what she was talking about half the time

Art doesn’t move the material world. The material world moves art. There’s nothing artists are supposed to do, they have no responsibility. They’re not meant to depict the world as it ought to be. They’ll depict what they feel and or see. That’s good art. Tiptoeing around anything isn’t.

When asked about his treatment of women he said "I'm tired of this question and I'm just glad that Tarantino's out there taking the heat for me now"
nobody's complaining about the way he films women walking

I’m done with this conversation. It’s exhausting. This is just Tipper Gore horseshit framed in a way that makes you appear more “well meaning”.

Again wait till you watch Body Double which might as well have been called Double Down.
I love ya buddy but let’s wrap this up.
love you too
love alot of DePalma too but lets just allow me to dislike aspects of this one. didnt even give it that bad of a score cause there was a good movie there somewhere.

That’s fair. I gotcha man. I just fundamentally disagree on how you got to your conclusions. The Dressed To Kill debate has been done to death so forgive me if I can get a little passionate trying to stop it in its tracks with what I feel is the “correct” answer.

done to death for you but i literally knew nothing about it going in yesterday
Damn this a flex tho LMAOOOOO luckily every celeb I ever met seemed to be cool as f*** and down to earth.
Even people I didn’t expect to be chill were chill, Lil Nas X for example
Lol word. I’d imagine Lil nas would be cool, seems like a young nigga just tryna chase dreams.
I haven’t met much celebs to be honest. I’ve been around a good amount but never really talked to them. But yea QT was a prick until he realized Niggas wasn’t having it lol
done to death for you but i literally knew nothing about it going in yesterday
I didn’t know that so I’m really sorry. I just saw it as a bunch of recycled talking points and was confused as to why you were saying them now. I know people whining about “wokeness” is really annoying at this point but Dressed To Kill was probably one of the first films to get that retroactive “it’s actually problematic” discourse earlier in the decade. A lot of this stuff has been hashed over for years now.
