I just realized that when this releases on blu ray that it’s likely to be given front row treatment at places like Walmart, Target and Best Buy.

Damn, when’s the last time a non-English movie has achieved THAT?

Those have English dubs though. I mean a foreign language film that is subtitles and subtitles only.

You’d think it was America’s first time seeing a foreign movie with the reaction this got.

If any Asian movie deserves this level of praise it should’ve been The Handmaiden. No need to compare but I was surprised at how under the radar it flew in the West considering it’s themes.

That’s 15+ years right there. This movie is definitely something special. Wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being the modern, quintessential introduction to foreign film.

I was a lil ass kid when that movie came out (not old enough to watch, still haven’t watched tbh) and I remember it being talked about everywhere. Only reason I remember the movie.

I think Battle Royale was the first foreign language movie I ever watched. Oldboy is definitely one of my all-time favorites though.
