I do think hearing all the politics from AK/TDE camp that's come out that parts of these songs (whether it's spreading fake rumours or just inside digs) definitely worked as disses from Drake towards Kendrick personally.

But yeah I completely agree about connecting with the audience, I think he just let the one week of quiet get him too ahead of himself. He timed the releases wrong, put too much stock into one song, tried creating a 20v1 narrative (that works but didn't stick as the audience wanted a 1v1) and with this final one didn't consider how reaction / interpretation could be twisted at all. (which to me is a surprising miss from an artist like that, but it goes to show that mocking Kendrick for taking his time wasn't the right move as you probably needed to do the same near the end.)
