i dont think its good to participate in the type of "omg another school shooting, look at these horrible details and social media posts" coverage that feeds into why these happen in the first place. no way im reading through all these 14 pages, but i really doubt there was anything positive that came from whatever political s***storm is probably going on. obviously i understand that it is a news story, but this is not a news site or news sxn and there are other similar level news negative stories that don't have a thread because they aren't surrounded by the same kind of sensationalism

you seem like a normal person who just comes in here to give your condolences which I respect and understand, but it seems like there are people who camp out in these type of threads either trying to bait people or using it for sick entertainment

You feel me, there was a law and order to how disputes were handled. Kids all played with toy guys & occasionally owned kid hunting rifiles but ultimately when it was time to f*** Someone up; kids beat the s*** outta each other.

(Sidebar: I worked at my old school a couple years back located in the inner city, meaning that the students were Black and Hispanic and staff predominantly White. I also served on the Board and heard the most intense discussions over possibly arming teachers or increasing security, yo.

The only thing concrete that came from those meetings was a zero tolerance law and order policy on bullying that lead to instant expulsion.

There was a racial divide among the staff between those favored Guns in the school and this who did not. Ultimately. It was a consensus that arming teachers now would be an overreaction. But I know a few who kept that thang in the car for emergencies)

but i do think it is a relevant news story that i honestly wouldn’t have known about unless it was for this thread so i guess it does serve the purpose of awareness but yeah there are people who just use it as an excuse to argue about s*** or just see it as entertaining

"i honestly wouldn’t have known about unless it was for this thread" yeah I understand that, but for me that's why I don't want to see it. im aware that unfortunately mass shootings occur regularly in the US but I don't want to know any more detail than that, seeing this always ruins my mood or stresses me out and i am able to avoid it on every site but this one. would be perfect if we just had an ability to feature or hide threads on here so we don't have to see it pop up repeatedly in the sidebar

idk how i feel about the lack of news coverage, but frfr i dont even want to hear the precise detailing of this day.

this a faulty time of year, the holiday season, ongoing pandemic, incoming new year; i would be concerned to send my child to school and the media plays a large role in that fear mongering.

but my Ogs always point out how necessary it is to persevere & to power through and dont give into the designs that are meant to distract, displace, or divide.

no, thats why i was saying it would be perfect for us to be able to filter out stuff we personally dont want to see. or maybe the Politics sxn should be combined into like Politics/News or something because a lot of news stories get posted there anyway and a lot of people choose not to follow that sxn

Yeah I think that makes sense, I wouldn’t mind that either because I follow the politics sxn as well

School shootings and mass shootings are literally advertisements for gun control. 75 percent of these type of shootings are done with guns the perpetrator "legally" had access to. Whether it being purchasing on their own or stealing from their parents, there is gun control that could help prevent both.

Kid had a behavior meeting day before with school staff then a behavioral meeting with staff and his parents the morning of the shooting for two different issues. No history of being bullied.

He shot 30 times and had 18 live rounds left.

This most likely an officer that thought by using "kids slang" that he would calm them down.

At least one student posted a video to social media of people hiding in a classroom during the lockdown, where an unidentified person out in the hallway claimed to be law enforcement, saying, "Sheriff's office. It's safe to come out." Feeling unsafe in leaving the classroom, students responded, "We're not willing to take that risk right now", to which the person said, "Come to the door and look at my badge, bro." The use of the word "bro" led many to believe they were speaking to the gunman and evacuated the classroom via the windows
