Breaking Bad might be the best Write Myself into a Corner and Find a Logical Way Out show ever. The plotting is a feat of engineering. And people are like, wow, you like explosions? Mad Men is more rewatchable.
Well, yeah, Mad Men is structured like a series of short stories. Why are we penalizing BB for having a propulsive plot?
They can't appreciate that Vince was an unserialized writer who then took advantage of the prestige form. Breaking Bad is a vehicle for that background. And yes, his expertise is in problem solving and knowing where to put the dominoes. The payoffs in that show are visceral. It's a lot more inclined towards action as a genre.
The viewership it garnered on Netflix was a lot of people's first introductions to prestige dramatic television. And you can see how that is a likely and critical on-ramp.
