Lupe imo is the best story teller in rap history
He be telling stories u wanna replay over and over
Kick, Push is one of those story songs you never forget. It doesn't even have a shocking ending, it's just the picture he paints throughout that makes it so special.
I Gave You Power
Dr. Carter
Stan
How Much a Dollar Cost
I always personally felt like the technical rhyme schemes took away from the storytelling on HMADC. It’s too wordy
All 4 songs are creative conceptually.
But which is your favorite out of 4 listed personally? There's no right or wrong answer.
I gave you power
Beat and flow are timeless
but all except Dr. Carter I rate highly
Throw in Biggies N words bleed
I might create another thread similar to this.
Lupe's def gonna get a mention.
Stans the most iconic/culturally important but i really like Dr Carter, all great songs
same honestly
stan even my mom knows
dr carter is just a really good song
Damn this tough
Dr Carter has the least interesting concept but it’s the most playable
I like the concept of I Gave You Power but it’s probably my least played of these
Stan and HMADC are 2 of the best story tracks oat
This a good discussion tho

Kick Push 2
also wanna show love to When Sparks Fly. for Vince to do a concept that’s already been done hella times, he did a good job making it his own
Gotta go with Stan, love everything about that song from the sample to the scribbles in the background. Masterpiece

Dr Carter is probably the most interesting concept to me, it’s the most unique. It’s very MF DOOM like tbh, taking the classic rap braggadocio style and superimposing a doctor on top of that.
HMADC as a top storytelling cut is insane to me, I can’t imagine thinking that. Every story from Big, Scarface, ice cube and Nas is better.
I honestly love discussing this
What y’all think about these 3
!https://youtu.be/Ml5RhkyKXyc?si=TGcFkP9yhY5Uy9Yt!https://youtu.be/QVIk5pKYLJ0?si=ZKRape3WN-97PKQY!https://youtu.be/Dm-foWGDBF0?si=A39Qst5mFFuUsTMeThe Cool and many early Lupe tracks are up there
The other two are classic songs but not top top tier stories for me. Kendrick does too much weird rhyming vocabulary stuff to tell a story effectively most of the time. Duckworth is the definition of overwrought

I kinda agree.
The idea of Wayne being a doctor using different procedures to save hip hop from dying was a super clever concept and he executed it well without being too heavy handed with it imho.
Nas tried a somewhat similar concept with "Who Killed It?" on HHID but the accent just hurts the song so much lol.

lol facts
But yeah I feel like people will say the others are better conceptually just because the concepts are “deeper” or more “serious” but Dr. Carter is one of the best pure concept tracks ever to me. It kind of stands out from the others too because it’s just a concept but the others are more stories, even though they’re conceptual stories.
Dr. Carter also can double as a legit instruction on how to rap. I can’t think of any other rappers who broke down the art of rapping so clearly
And it got the message across, had a dope unique beat, but still was a fun song. That and Let the Beat Build were what really made C3 a classic tbh
