With the absolute utmost respect to Michael B. Jordan, this is going to be an all-time bad best actor win relative to the competition

Why do you say that cause of Wagner ? Timmy and Leo solid but could see it go either which way . Dual protagonist really did it and an candidate loved by all

Dual protagonist doesn't mean anything to me tbh. It's fun but not really indicative of quality or skill. For reference, Robert Pattinson did it last year as well and despite the movie being worse his performance was much better imo. Moura technically played 3 characters, although two of them didn't have nearly as much screen time as MBJ's two.

I think this year's Best Actor group is historically strong and MBJ's performance was the weakest by quite a bit. If it was up to me Lee Byung-hun or Jesse Plemons would have his spot.

Lee deserved but the white black bait to film community worked . No other choice deserved multiple wins . When it wasn’t nominated I checked out

It’ll be pretty in-line with what best actor has been for over a decade at this point. MBJ’s win will be no different than Fraser’s, Malek’s, Will Smith’s, etc. A s*** and cursed category. It’s telling that the most deserving win of the last 10 years also resulted in one of the worst/most embarrassing moments in Oscars history.

  • Will smith s*** blows my mind every single time I watch it.

Usually do a Best Picture rewatch in the week leading up to the Oscars but just can’t bring myself to do it this year. Discourse has ruined the mood.

Seems like the discourse this year has to do with literally everything except the movies

Couldn’t this have a lot of insider trading? Im not sure how the voting works but im sure there’s people that know ahead of the broadcast

there’s only two people that know beforehand so unless one of them is insider trading and prob gets themselves fired on the spot then nah

I think people thought that they knew in advance cause of the Chadwick Boseman thing but that was the Academy being stupid and assuming that he’d win and not wanting to upset his wife by making her sit through the best picture award after or something like that

I like how he doesn’t care either way because he knows what he made

There’s no way it gets leaked in the process of printing the names in the envelopes?

It will be difference because of how strong the field is this year

Malek and Smith weren't great wins but their respective competition wasn't great either, certainly not compared to this year

  • Will Smith did WHAT?
