after 3-4 years I start to completely forget what I thought about mid movies or if I even saw them. LB has saved me countless hours of rewatching stuff I forgot I already dont like. seen countless things I never would have heard about if the search function wasnt so useful. seems edgy to hate on something so insanely useful.

If you are forgetting you watched movies and have to refer to a website to check if you watched or liked them . There are greater problems at play . Your letterboxd circle and seeking to quantify the quality of every movie based on them to me is goofy

When it comes to quantifying the art you engage with… do people do this? Sure. But also, I don’t think it’s fair to just be like “everyone using letterboxd is b******izing the medium” (I know this isn’t your exact wording but I’m just trying to recap it in a concise way lol)— like, it’s possible to engage in film in a genuine way and also use letterboxd.

Like, when I rate s*** on LB, I’m absolutely coming at it from a 100% subjective angle. I’m not trying to make some grand statement about anything, I’m not trying to be a serious critic and I’m in no way trying to be objective. I just sort of know how I associate my “feeling” about a movie with a 1-5 scale, and it’s fun to have a log of it.

I'm an old stoner it is what it is. I watch a s***load of movies so if a movie is forgettable then I will forget about it.

I know my LB friends taste very well and can usually gauge what I'll think of something off what they think. They're all on here and we've been bantering about everything since like 2013.
And I personally don't like to quantify the quality of everything I watch, will often leave something unrated if it has alot of depth or is operating in a way I'm not used to.

exactly I'm doing this for myself. I been watching a s***load of movies way way before I got LB a decade ago and If theres one thing I cant quantify its how useful the app has been at keeping my hobby more focused. even when I write some stupid little review, its super useful to myself 5 or more years down the road.

I cant even imagine doing my Best Films Of Each Year thread. even with my stacks and stack of books about film, there so many deep cuts I never would have heard about without LB.
