This is helping to understand that there are levels to this with the characters that being said, don't underestimate how this is subtly adding Rocks hype on the side

It starts off with the Yonko (WB, BM, Kaido) all conquerors. Then we find out that they were all under Rocks. A prime or near prime WB and BM BOTH under one man's banner (Kaido was still an apprentice).

Now we move onto Shanks, Roger's apprentice and we see what he can do. And he LEARNED under Roger, one of the people Rocks fought. Then this chapter we see what Garp just did as a GRANDFATHER!
