I am of the belief that Kaido was awakened the whole time. He was doing Chopper-esque things with his df without rumble balls

I don't think every villain needs to have an awakening. I feel like if that were the case then it could very easily become formulaic if Luffy is the one constantly pushing villains to awake.

It's also possible that he has already awakened and it just wasn't stated. I mean, he created a dragon made out of flames that was even bigger than his dragon form that he then put himself inside and was controlling. Doflamingo was already awakened before he fought Luffy, so I think it's possible that Kaido was too.

Also if Kaido and Big Mom are actually dead (or if he thought he was gonna die) then I think his flashback was his life flashing before his eyes. The shortness of it makes sense then cause it's just key moments for him.

Kaido's full backstory is being saved to either be told by Vegapunk or for when we learn everything that happened with the Rocks pirates. I could definitely see us getting an Oden style flashback but instead focusing on the Rocks pirates, Garp and Roger.

Based off the panel showing the two holes they made in the ground, and how its breaking, i think theyre gonna get sealed into the ground. Oda made an effort to show that they cant be killed by conventional means. Either that or an admiral or something comes in and lands a killing blow, someone who… isnt affected by magma

that seems possible altho I highly doubt theyre gonna get killed and especially not by Luffy

I wish I loved gear fifth but something about it just didnt hit for me. I’ll probably enjoy the arc more upon reread / if this fight is animated immaculately but so much of fear 5’s gave me a “wtf” factor instead of “this s*** is dope” feeling

Lol they, well Big Mom at least been chilling in the magma for a minute, these two seemingly immune to magma. Akainu nerfed lowkey. I'm not even sure if that little squiggly blob was Big Mom tho, it looked more like Kaido's jacket, than something that looked like Big Mom.

A lot about that panel with the magma is very hard to make out, need that animated immediately, cuz I feel it loses some impact when you're like wtf is that?

Now that we got the confirmation that Luffy won I gotta say the climax was a bit underwhelming.

My problem is not that it’s a punch it’s that it’s really not innovating enough following what Luffy has been doing the past 5 chapters before it. The most innovating thing Oda has done with Luffy is the golden bell punch in Skypiea or the wax stuff in impel down. We we’re beginning to see some of that when Luffy grabbed the lightning but instead we got a regular big punch with a few tweaks to it. Imo it isn’t as iconic for something that’s been building up for 10 years.

As someone who prefers the “jet”moves to the “gigant” moves, im down bad

I thought the dragon was the awakening since he had the fish fruit and Japanese mythology has the koi fish that climbs the waterfall and becomes a dragon.

I don't think the dragon was his awakening because his fruit is the Fish-Fish Fruit, Model Azure Dragon, nothing about a carp or koi fish in that name, meaning he was never a carp or koi fish that had to climb the waterfall to become a dragon.

If we assume that the myth about carp going up a waterfall is true in the world of OP then the name suggests that Kaido's fruit gives him the power of a carp that has climbed the waterfall and became a dragon. I don't think he was ever a carp that had to climb the waterfall cause then his fruit would be "Model Carp" or "Model Koi Fish" and the awakening would the dragon form. But his fruit is specifically a dragon model which suggests he skips the part of being a carp.

Momo has the same exact fruit and he's also never been a carp or koi fish. Momo was a dragon from the jump.
