I finished Dressrosa today
F***
This is up there with Water 7, Enies Lobby, Sabaody and Impel Down imo. So much stuff happened, so sorry if this is really long, there's just so much to talk about.
Devil fruits regrow after the user dies
Was that Ace's devil fruit that grew from an apple in Punk Hazard? If it was, how did Doflamingo know that it was there? What happens with Whitebeard's fruit since Blackbeard somehow stole his power? Will it still regrow? So many questions
Dressrosa itself is a pretty cool island even though it was small. Toys living amongst humans was an interesting concept, but then when it all unravels and you see how Doflamingo is literally the puppeteer of the island and its people.
Speaking of Doflamingo, this mf was a celestial dragon?
His origin story was insane. He really is just an evil ass dude, he even killed his own father and brought his head back to Mariejois
His dad deciding to leave the celestial dragons and "become human" was completely unexpected. I thought Doflamingo did something to get kicked out or was exiled or something.
Man, Oda was in his BAG with the backstories this arc
I thought it was pretty obvious that the toy soldier was Rebecca's dad, but I did not expect him to end up being Kyros at all. I think the story of Kyros is up there with Brook's background for me, it's so f***ing good. Seeing how King Riku saw a troubled teen and took him under his wing and turned him into the commander of Dressrosa's army, and the relationship that he formed with Scarlett. Then in the aftermath of Doflamingo taking over Dressrosa, Kyros tries to free King Riku and he cuts off his own leg to get free of the chain and that's why he only has one leg in his toy form
Scarlett dying in Kyros' arms as a toy and her not even remembering that the love of her life existed
And then you think back to the beginning of the arc where Rebecca was talking to Luffy about the statue of Kyros, and how she's not even sure if he ever existed because no one remembers him
Law's backstory, so much pain
His country was the victim of exploitation for profit by the world government and the royalty of his island and it led to him losing everyone and everything
Corazon has instantly become one of my favorite side characters. I loved seeing his relationship with Law grow and how they became such good friends, and the length Corazon was willing to go to save Law from his disease. When Corazon banged his head on the chest Law was in and pretended to apologize to Doflamingo for lying about being in the Navy, but he was actually talking to Law
Law has a D name too wtf
F***, even Senior Pink had an amazing backstory. He wasn't there for his wife when their child died because he was with Doflamingo, and then she runs off in a storm and ends up in a vegetative state. All he wanted was to see her smile again and he discovers that wearing a bonnet can make her crack the tiniest of smiles. So then he begins to start dressing more and more like a baby to make her happy and presumably even puts on weight to make the effect greater. God damn.
Baby 5 had a good one too even though it was super short, but it perfectly explained why she's so eager to help people.
Oda also went crazy with the side characters this arc
Bartolomeo, Fujitora, Baby 5, Dellinger, Sai, Rebecca, Kyros, Konjuro, all the other competitors in the tournament
Bartolomeo was great. Super funny and it totally makes sense that at this point in the Straw Hats journey they would have some fanboys. His power is amazing as well. Definitely more utility based but still strong in it's own right. I hope we get to see more of him. His f***ing ship
Sabo is back
and he got Ace's devil fruit
I knew he wasn't dead, never trust an off screen death. So Dragon saved him and we grew up in revolutionary army while having lost his memory until he saw Ace died
I would have liked to see more of him but I'm sure I will in future arcs.
Luffy's fight with Bellamy
I felt bad for Bellamy. He spent his whole life idolizing and following Doflamingo only to find out that Doffy didn't give a f*** about him. But even so, Bellamy didn't want to abandon his principles and decided that he either had to go down with Doflamingo or die. So during their fight he was basically asking Luffy to kill him so he could be free of his principles that he can't let go of. Amazing that Oda was able to add this much depth to a character that was just a side villain 600 episodes ago.
Fujitora
Probably the best character that was introduced this arc. He can control gravity
What a f***ing insane power. He's very complex and I get a bit of Garp vibes from him. He clearly understands that the Navy is not the good guy, yet he is still loyal to them in some ways and he struggles with it just like Garp. Hence why he apologizes to Riku on TV on behalf of the Navy for allowing Doflamingo to take control of Dressrosa when they knew how dangerous he was. He didn't want the Navy to have time to take credit for what the Straw Hats did and to rewrite history. That's one of the reasons he wants the warlord program to be dissolved. Then at the end when reveals he blinded himself because no longer wished to see horrible things but he wishes that he could see Luffy
Also I'm certain that he was using his gravity power to cheat at gambling in both the begging of the arc and the end. He was 100% using his power to roll a 1 to give the Straw Hats time to prepare to escape Dressrosa. That's why when Tsuru shows up, she rolls and gets a 6 and then Fujitora tells his people to capture the Straw Hats. Plus at the very end he reveals he rolled the die again and it came up as a 1, which is why he dropped the rubble on the pirates who showed up to stop Luffy and "missed" when they were leaving. He's clearly playing a game with the Navy but also understands his position as a Navy general.
The Tontattas were okay. I thought their lore about being enslaved, freed and then made out to be fairies as repayment, then becoming enslaved again was interesting, but I didn't really care for any of the Tontatta characters.
Sai vs Lao G
Aokiji is with Blackbeard
FOURTH GEAR
Holy s***. Luffy looks so hard in that form even though he has to constantly bounce
His moves in that form are ridiculous. The king kong gun to take out Doflamingo and shatter his glasses
I can't wait to see more that form.
When Doflamingo reveals that devil fruits can "awaken" and affect other things than just the user
The possibilities
CP9 is back as CP0, or at least some of them are
Luffy rejecting the offer to become the captain of a fleet of 5600 men because he wants to be free and not responsible for all of them
Who tf is Captain Jack? Also I'm pretty sure his logo was the same logo on the belt buckle that Sanji noticed on whatever island he's on.
I'd say I only have two real complaints with this arc. One, the middle of the arc was a bit long and it really slowed down. Two, I really missed seeing Sanji, Chopper, Nami and Brook.
Chopper's bounty went up to 100 beli :pog:
Sanji's wanted poster says "wanted alive" yet everyone else's says "dead or alive"
I'm sure I didn't go over some things but there's just too much to cover and this getting long af. Banger of an arc, even with the slower middle portion.
Zou next
Quoting this because it's too good to get bottom paged

This was a great callback when Zoro joined Luffy in the anime which was 22 years ago this week

Now just wait until he opens that left eye of his
The anime episode 1001 confirmed that the man who Hawkins said had a 1% chance of surviving the raid was Drake. Was never confirmed in the manga so just a nice little bit of info.
The most recent SBS by Oda reveals that in the case of 21-year-old Roronoa Zoro, Shimotsuki Ushimaru YOU ARE
NOT the father
Who’s who’s and sazaki were delusional to think they could challenge king or queen to become calamities
If Queen wasn't a goofball d***head he'd be a horrifying opponent

Need more Zoro-Wano info so bad

It’s really a coincidence that Zoro looks like a few master swordsmen like him and Ryuma. I like that tho, Zoro is where he’s at by sheer grit and strength no preordained fate or famous lineage .

S/o my dawg Jimbei calling Who's Who's racist ass out and then cooking him no problem
Queen is amazing. Hope he's not down for good yet. Probably my favorite new character from the last few arcs. He's just pure entertainment
