Watched until 970 before switching to reading as well

I was planning on switching to manga during dressrosa cause pacing but these fight scenes are too on god

Oh yeah the pacing is HORRIBLE esp the start of the colliseum fights

Always forget kaido is doing all this stuff while transporting a whole little island lmaoo such a beast.

I think Luffy is about to cook him off that top panel alone. That's Luffy in his base form holding up Kaido in his hybrid form with a goofy ass pre TS maneuver, SHEESH.

Plus, this chapter is the first real sign of Kaido showing wear and tear with his failing ability to continue carrying Onigashima which makes sense after all the battles he's fought.

Kaido for sure got something crazy left though.

I feel you but:

1) It isn't 1v1 - Kaido's taking all comers, literally a royal rumble on the other side all aimed at him. Even with the heights Luffy's ascended to, 1v1 with Kaido from jump, he's getting beaten (but not smashed like before, if you're splitting skies you're on yonkou time).

2) I was looking back through previous chapters and forgot the whole thing with Who's Who/CP9/gum gum no mi. Luffy's DF isn't some goofy fruit that he's maxing out, it's truly a powerhouse (love Oda using the WG/cipher pol to show this and all of the CP0 appearances throughout the raid). Between the gum gum no mi's latent regenerative (and beyond, man doesn't just get back up, he comes back stronger)/recovering qualities, the nature of Haki, Luffy's advancement of his haki over the course of the arc, the idea of haki truly blooming in battle and his conquer's spirit + a whole army of forces, this feels timely to me.

Yeah I get all that. But I still think that the whole raid has been going way too easy for the strawhats. All the tobi roppo going down pretty easily. And now luffy fighting against kaido on par. I dunno it's just going kinda fast if I remember luffy fighting for several chapters against katakuri and the struggle he had against a yonko commander. I just hope that oda finds a plausible way for luffy to defeat kaido which isn't just gear 5 or something like. Something more creative maybe

Does this count as the start of the New World though? Cause iirc this was the beginning of Return to Sabaody arc which is five episodes + the crew didn't seem to consider themselves in the New World until they left Fishman Island and jumped out with all the whales

One of the best parts of the series (esp with the whales singing info later)

This is true in a way, but the ep officially marks the beginning of the second half which is called “The New World Saga” that encompasses every arc currently.
