    Marineford

What a f***ing arc. From start to finish, so much hype, twists, momentum shifts, crazy abilities, just everything

Ace was Roger's son So it seems like Garp was taking in kids fathered by infamous criminals and having them raised by someone else, in hopes of turning them into marines? Wild. I know Roger asked him to take care of Ace but I why would Garp do that for Luffy

Ace's whole situation reminded me a bit of Luffy's in Sabaody. He was helpless and had to watch his friends and family get destroyed by the Navy. At least he got his chance to fight back when Luffy freed him. But wtf was Mr 3 doing disguised as one of the executioners

I did not expect Ace to die at all. I felt like he was being built up to have a much bigger impact in the world, but maybe his death is that impact. I thought we were about to see Luffy lose it when Ace died in his arms like Gon did in HxH.

    "Thank you for loving me"

Whitebeard's earthquake powers This mf tilted the whole of Marineford and the ocean surrounding it And now Blackbeard has that power too

When Whitebeard revealed that all he's wanted his entire life was a family, and that's why he calls everyone his son and they call him pops

Buggy and his crew just f***ed around this entire arc and goofed off, they legit did nothing until the very end

So the real Kuma hated the government but volunteered to be experimented on by them?? Nah, Dr Vegapunk got some crazy s*** going on and now they got an army of Kuma's.

Apparently the "D" bloodline is a legendary one and Ace, Luffy, Roger and Blackbeard are all part of it

    Crocodile saving Luffy and Jinbe

Then Law and his crew show up to save Luffy too, interesting

Shanks I was wondering where one of the most powerful pirates was during the war to decide the future of the world. He showed up super late, but did his thing I guess. At least he's gonna give Ace and Whitebeard proper burials.

    Post War next

While Rewatching some of Marineford, it’s such a deep scene when Garp simply tells Ace, while crying, “you fool, why couldn’t you lead life as I told you?”

You really gain the sense that, damn: Garp just didn’t want them to end up in this position, with their lives cutting short because of being a pirate

Garp is definitely one of the more interesting characters that's been introduced recently. For me, it's pretty hard to nail down his motives. Cause at some points he's willing to completely ignore his Navy duties, like in Post Enies when he could have easily captured Luffy and the crew but decided not to. And he didn't seem to try all that hard after he was told he had to. It was more like he was playing with Luffy.

But then in Marineford he'll sit by Ace on the execution platform, basically tell him this is how it has to be, makes no effort to change Ace's situation and even demonstrates loyalty to the Navy by challenging Luffy on the bridge, but then lets Luffy land a punch that he probably could have easily dodged.

He's clearly trapped between two worlds and is facing his own moral struggles. Gonna be interesting to see how Garp deals with those struggles as Luffy ventures off into the New World and undoubtedly becomes a bigger threat to the Navy as he gets stronger and more renown.

Is the anime worth getting into now?

I'm loving this so far Just as good as it was back in my early teens. Thought it could be too childish at times but nah. Honestly rn can relate more to certain themes and character traits, oddly enough

On episode 24... Syrup Village arc was a bit of a drag but after that it immediately picks up. Love the feeling of adventure in OP, the possibilites are endless when it comes to storytelling

    Finished Post War

Pretty good arc overall. One Pace had this at only 8 episodes and I definitely thought the 2nd half was better than the first.

    Baby Luffy

I'm really interested in why Garp trusted Dadan and her mountain bandits to raise Ace and Luffy. Obviously they have some history. Watching Luffy trying to win over Ace was super cute. So was him trying to figure out how to use his powers. Also, Luffy and Ace had another brother, Sabo

Sabo being the son of nobles was unexpected. I really liked the portrayal of the upper class that Sabo was from and their complete disdain for the people literally and figuratively below them. Especially when Dragon shows up. It gives us a much clearer picture of why Dragon has dedicated his life to being a revolutionary. I'm gonna assume that Sabo isn't actually dead though, since it was off screen just like Bon Clay.

Kuma was a revolutionary with Ivankov and Dragon And he was trying to protect the Straw Hats at Sabaody when he sent them all away

When Dadan beat the s*** outta Garp for letting Ace die

Luffy having another breakdown when he wakes up and has to come to terms with Ace actually being dead Then when he remembers his crew is still out there waiting for him

I loved catching up with the rest of the Straw Hats on their islands. The island Nami was on in particular looked really fun. I wish we would have got more of that.

How did Usopp put on all that weight so fast

Zoro was sent to Hawk Eye's home

Franky was at the island Dr. Vegapunk was born on Him blowing up the lab and melting off his synthetic skin

    Sanji stuck with the Okama's

So Garp and Sengoku are done with the Navy I doubt that was the last we see of either of them though. I wonder what they're up to.

Seeing all the Straw Hats receive Luffy's hidden message and then remembering why they chose him as their captain and pledging to get stronger for him I love them all so much

Brook initially thinking that being able to go 5 degrees lower on his 45 degrees trick would in any way be helpful

So Haki is the same thing as Mantra from Skypiea I know Luffy gonna go crazy with that.

Overall a pretty good set up arc for what's to come. There really hasn't been that much of a chill arc for a while so this was nice. I knew there was a time skip but I didn't expect to reach it this fast.

    On to the New World

Return to Sabaody, the Straw Hats are back

Finally, the crew is together once again Pretty short but I'm so excited for the future. I can't believe the imposters not only fooled the Navy, but also Luffy and Chopper

Our crew is so strong now that the Kuma clones aren't even an issue

Zoro and Sanji fighting just like they used to

    Thoughts on the redesigns:

Luffy - Mainly the same, cool new scar on his chest
Sanji - Definitely looks older, I don't mind the facial hair
Zoro - Lost his eye while training with Hawk Eye Love the new fit
Nami - Pretty much the same but with longer hair now. Still a cutie
Usopp - Jacked and seems much more confident
Franky - Huge changes, looks much more like a cyborg now. Not sure how I feel about the shaved head but since he can control his hair I'm sure we'll see some crazy hairstyles
Chopper- Prefer the old hat but the new one is nice. Still adorable af
Brook - Overall the same just with some new clothes and accessories. I didn't think he needed any changes but it makes sense why he did from a story perspective
Robin - My academic queen The biggest change other than Franky and she needed it the most imo. Her original art definitely stuck out at times so I'm glad she got a full refresh. Looks great.

    Finally going to Fishman Island

    Toei just does stupid s***

Like why would you even show that? It takes away from the roof top moment imo.

And it creates plot holes because it looks like Zoro is doing that at will. When on the roof top he had no idea.
