Streets saying the bond market is going to crash, which is supposed to be the safest market to invest in.
I watched this video to try to grasp how bonds work

The U.S. borrows money just like any of us would borrow money. They borrow it by issuing bonds. Investors, other countries and regular people can buy these bonds. That money then (in a an ideal world) goes to idk building a road or the military or something. The government then pays it back over time with interest on top. Now if the government goes bankrupt and defaults it’s game over.

Bond prices fall when no one wants to buy bonds. The government can’t get anyone to lend them their hard earned money. When bond prices fall, the interest rates rise. So now when the gov wants to borrow your money they have to pay back more money at a time.

So in a good economy (people have more spending money) people would be buying bonds. The prices would be above average and the interest rates would be below average so government doesn’t have to pay so much back to everyone in interest.

Ok also they pay you just the interest until a specific date. Then they pay you the original loan (bond) amount

So like when these bonds mature (reach that date) the government has to pay you back your loan
