I like Anthony's reviews for artists he cares about but when he's biased against someone he shows it. I just wish he'd stop if he doesn't care because we can feel when a review is obligatory vs when he actually wants to review something. I feel like he also tries to go viral and get a meme going if he repeatedly s***s on Nav, Em, Logic, etc

when fantano first started on youtube and before he was like well-known, he was a pretty honest reviewer with eccentric taste and mostly stayed within the genres he felt comfortable reviewing. when he got famous he became a massive egotistic prick and for as much as he s***s on artists themselves for not respecting the medium the dude himself treats his parasocial relationship to music like a meme despite very well knowing his rabid white rym fanbase will make artists lives hell if he gives them negative reviews. im not a nav fan myself but there's no reason for him to be reviewing artists like nav as an indie music person. i don't think he should stop being negative if he doesn't like something but his negativity on some artists is just straight up disrespectful for no reason, and when other artists call him out on it he can't handle the criticism despite saying 10x worse things himself

If you genuinely hate Fantano, then you also hate most of the people on this site. Theres not much difference. He just has a bigger platform.

Yes I used to watch him way back in 2012 and he was the best critic not because I agreed with his opinions but I understand where he came from. Now he does reviews because an album is popular and people expect him to do it but honestly if you don't like Nav it's pointless to pretend you do. A lot of critics are like this reviewing movies from genres you can clearly tell they don't give a f*** about. But the content pays the bills so they have to do it. I wouldn't mind if he switches his style to only 4 videos a month about albums he can talk about for an hour instead of 20 albums he gives 10 minutes each

'parasocial relationship to music' is absolute poetry tbh

I’ve been guilty in the past of letting other people hating on an album affect my enjoyment of it, but that’s no way to live.

If you like the Drake album, listen to it, if you don’t, you don’t have to. No shame either way, just don’t be a illogical drake groupie or a professional hater

    So, I don’t get it.

Do y’all care what he says or not?

Because some of y’all seem awfully hurt about the opinion of someone you claim you don’t care about.

    Thread full of shambles

Mans credibility goes out the window when Melon challenges him to hum a melody off the album and he can't think of one

He's in such denial with how forgettable this album is

the main reason i cant stand fantano at this point is because of how much influence he has on peoples' opinion of music online and how fully aware of that he is and how egotistical he's become because of it
even if the guy has bad opinions sometimes, like you said, so do tons of other critics, but most other critics don't have a squad of viewers who literally copy their opinions
fantano like single handedly destroyed the ability to have discussions about music in a lot of circles that otherwise had neutral artist discourse. imo the origin of all of this is almost certainly back during when death grips first were getting big and then got compounded further during when brockhampton was breaking into the internet mainstream

You're just saying he got too popular. Which is the irrational hate lots of people get when they get too big.

nah it's not just that he got popular, it's that in spite of being popular he completely changed his content and started irresponsibly using his platform. there's a reason popular artists with huge fanbases just don't go around s***ting on random people and when they do, it's considered a big deal - it's because obviously their fans are going to pick up that opinion. fantano might not be an artist but he's in the same category as far as having a following and being an ass about it. you can't be saying dumb stuff about artists when you have millions of followers the same way you could when you had 50k subscribers.

    Where is the review Melon?

  • Jun 21, 2022

Seems very clear to me that Drake is in the same phase that Wayne was from like 2010-2017. Just a string of mediocre release after release with only slight glimmers of what made some of the earlier releases better overall bodies of work.

I know what you're saying I feel like him and Akademiks use their influence to hurt artists they don't like because they're pretty funny and that attracts younger gen z kids who spam comments on social media all day. It's sad because those were both two of my favorite youtubers years ago but the fame changed them

oh no bald man don't like album

  • Jun 21, 2022

The thing was mixed by Luca Pretolesi. Dude is literally 3x Grammy Winner and a bunch of noms also. Like, these dudes knew what they were doing. Melon is talking like if Drake and 40 handed this s*** to a bunch of vaporwave kids.

I'm in the belief that famous people shouldnt be held accountable for their fans. Especially not for just sharing your opinions, good or bad. Now if he said x artists sucks and told his fanbase to go slander that person, then of course that's not okay at all.

I don't think that all in all it's that famous people are responsible for their fans on an individual basis, but that's separate from knowing what type of relative power you hold and how you use it. Fantano used to be very good with this imo but got progressively worse over time
