3/10 is WAY too harsh and screams that he's out of touch with Drake and how the people love him. TSU and Way too sexy are out of here for example. He's just too deep in a***ysis to even see it
However, Fantano's review did hit on a few critiques that I had for the album
Essentially, Drake is formulaic almost to a fault. It's a drake album 100%. You know exactly what you're getting from drake when it's album time. EYE love it, but I can see how it can be pretty stale and bland for others. It's suchhhhh a drake album
It's why when he gets on features, he kills it for people in a positive way because he's not in album mode. He's so talented, he can do it all which is why It's so refreshing to hear him do features. He's more interesting. But that buzz / hype gets diluted a bit once album time hits.
It's almost comical how much drake sticks to script for album time.

What is the tangible difference from like Champagne Poetry, and Survival?
7AM and 6PM?
Nonstop and No Friends In The Industry?

Drake actually rapping with life to him on 6PM in New York and the beat is also better.

Very clear way to differentiate between the two tracks.

Only problem I have With what you said is the TSU point. Drake has been making songs of this type of relationship with women for YEARS. Why is it so shocking now? Y’all acting like drake on some creeper s*** and I hate that narrative that y’all push here all the time. Talking bout “taking advantage” of this girl lmao. You don’t think that girl wanna f*** Drake? Stop it. It’s plenty of rappers that just outright send wire transfers for sex. Clearly drake has some kind of relationship w the girl to know about her upbringing w/ her parents

Imma try to add some actual discourse cuz i don’t want this to turn into a shot posting thread.

Champagne Poetry is actually a good song to me. It kinda reminds me of the underground / Roc Marciano style trend that’s been going on and it’s a good example of Drake somewhat switching it up.

My thing is bro, Drake like at that age where he solidified. I feel like if he did something different his fans would accept it at this point just because of how big a name he is.

When dudes like Hov were around Drake age they gave us genre defining albums like The Blueprint there’s no reason as to why he can’t he has the skill set

I think Drake is beyond comparison in terms of his LP's.

You can't compare him to Jay-Z because Jay-Z was a pure rapper.

Drake is so good at rapping that he's labeled a rapper, and rightfully so. But he does so much more on albums that it's kind of unfair to basically say Drake should be making Blueprint level albums when that's literally not his objective at all.

He's the most unique rapper of all time IMO. He can only really be compared to his past work, and in my eyes he's succeeded.

I do agree though, that with his albums he can definitely take more chances. Give me an all Rap Album, give me an all R&B album, he just won't though and it's hard to argue given how successful he's been.

He makes music for the people, and the people love it.

I can see why people would say this but then you got folks like Lauryn Hill who also sang on their albums and took risks. Not to mention Andre with the Love Below.

And Phonte was a huge influence on Drake too with the blend of genres

Yeah, Lauryn Hill was never as good as a rapper as Drake is though

And 3 stacks never went this far with the R&B and melodies

And this is what I'm saying. He's such a unique talent that he'll always fall short if you try and box him in as the next Hov or Nas, or some s***.

1) Drake's album being more focused on the Ye beef than Ye's was about Drake.

Also pointed out that due to this, some of the subject matter on CLB won't age well in comparison to Ye whose album was mostly about his mom and his religion

2) The story being told in TSU is weird as f*** when you look at the power dynamics (R. Kelly sample doesn't help)

3) Some of these bars are as cringe as ever

4) This nigga got a song called No Friends In The Industry and got half the f***in industry on this album

5) How many times is he gonna make songs about not trusting niggas it's been like this since Take Care

6) A good chunk of these features renegaded

7) This s*** takes a while to pick up.

8) Niggas giving a pass to Way 2 Sexy when if someone else not named Drake would've made this track niggas would've clowned him

And niggas tryna take this "oh he's a white nerd he doesn't get it" angle like Drake is some pro black NOI rapper is hilarious. That nigga Drake has the widest net when it comes to demographics and best believe it's hella whites at his shows
