KSG and TPAB deserved it
Tbh daughters deserved it too… I’m not even a general fan of that type of music and when I first heard it I was blown away and legit thought it was a 10
KSG didn't
KSG is too perfect tbh not a second wasted
Flawless record
That's how I feel about Yeezus but KSG felt unfinished to me.

doesn’t feel unfinished at all
yeezus is perfect too
think this is his first 10 that actually deserved it
tpab, to be kind and tms def deserved it. im okay with ksg. that daughters album I didn't care for for a single second of it. this ones random and im yet to hear it but its cool that it came so out of nowhere for a small artist
think this is his first 10 that actually deserved it
Saying TPAB didn't deserve a 10 is some classic Internet edgelord bait
I added that spelling album to my library and didn’t listen to it before the review f***
Same
Same
had it next to the new marias album that I have yet to listen to
s*** now ima be a melon sucker cause the album is actually really gorgeous

I liked The Marias album
This like when he started giving death grips high scores and they went through the roof. Glad for her
Doubt she gets the same coverage as the other people who got 10s tho. This music is really different than Swans, DG, Kendrick, etc
once he gave ksg a 10 i realized 2 things
1) yt ppl love C- D tier kanye for some inexplicable reason
2) we both look for similar things in albums (powerful artistic statements that push boundaries without sacrificing a sense of identity) but differ in how it should be executed
all jokes aside, as much as i hate how TND has become an entertainment machine and how painfully yt he is, he still appeals to that nerdy journalist in me. imma give this review a watch just off the strength it’s been so long since a 10
i’m still surprised Safe In The Hands of Love didn’t receive a 10. it just seemed like it made so much sense, but to each their own
i’m actually excited to listen to this spelling record
i can’t even count how many artists i found thru fantano when i was in hs

do you have any thoughts on how KSG became so loved? i have a few

shoot
the main reason is that it has conversations (use the term lightly) about mental illness that’s easy to understand and full of indulgent self pity.
i’d say 65% of hip hop talks about about mental illness to some degree but most listeners usually don’t see it like that because it’s a form of escapism
ksg isnt a bad record and it does it’s job but it puts an icky taste in my mouth that it gets looked at as like THE rap album about mental illness.
it’s frustrating because you have songs like addiction that have much more nuanced conversations about mental illness (i hate this term i’m reading anti œdipes rn lol) but ppl act as if ksg is like the first time he’s having these convos
like it’s just plain old racism yet again

Is there anything stopping you from saying that about the influence of kid cudi as a whole

kids see ghosts n kids love kanye but i feel like cudi fell inbetween the cracks thru that time, but the power of 'kid cudi humming' on social media, 100k retweets about cudi n the new gen followed by this album bought him to the forefront again
irregardless of opinion on the music cudi prob saved many teens from necking themselves and that gen were coming into adulthood at the point of KSG where that serious mental health discussion became a bit more open, the nostalgia and 'he saved my life' angles are serious s*** - and that's probably imo how it became a definitive album about mental health.
wayne was rapping 'melodically' about addiction, depression etc. at that early time too but he didn't quite convert it to the overall 'album' and for kids searching for that 90s credibility but with s*** that relates to them as white guys from the burbs cudi put the package together

the only thing stopping me is my refusal to talk about cudi in a serious manner

yea i mean all that is true but like u said

when wayne was making s*** like this a decade ago i can’t take anyone’s opinion seriously who says “kids see ghosts is the definitive album on mental health”
esp when it’s suburbanites who can only understand black trauma through humming more so than nuanced storytelling. all the melody and harmony is in that wayne stuff. it’s just the yt cudi fan base can’t take rap seriously as a medium.
i wanna talk about rick rubin and nwa and how rap is the “modern” western for the average media consumer
sometimes i’m like “music speaks for itself why let other people’s opinion get in the way” but i realized that popular artists aren’t about the music as much as they are needed to give people identity. and understanding why people identify with specific artists is important to understanding the media u consume
let me finish anti oedpius / capitalism and schizophrenia and i got y’all

first of all the i feel like dying vids hit so hard when u look at the comments / 11k likes for 'when u come back older and finally understand everything'
streaming is stripping this away from us, even the youtube music 'topic' tracks disable commenting
now when sometimes they are the only existence of a track in streaming form
