"Sony Group Corp. is now considering pushing back the debut of its next PlayStation console to 2028 or even 2029, according to people familiar with the company's thinking. That would be a major upset to a carefully orchestrated strategy to sustain user engagement between hardware generations. Close rival Nintendo Co., which contributed to the surplus demand in 2025 after its new Switch 2 console drove storage card purchases, is also contemplating raising the price of that device in 2026, people familiar with its plans said. Sony and Nintendo representatives didn't respond to requests for comment."

They can coast off of PS5 (and PS5 Pro) for ~3 more years thanks to GTA alone.
Xbox will probably release their next-gen system before them, but competition-wise that brand’s irrelevant now (and it’s just gonna be a glorified PC that’s not as affordable as a console).
As for Nintendo raising prices of NS2 hardware, yikes, the next mainline Pokémon better look next-gen for the franchise. A new Switch 2 Lite model that’s cheaper would definitely help move units with Pokémon.

Exactly yeah... But this delay isn't a 100 % thing as MLID claims the PS6 is still coming Holiday 2027 so far and the how much RAM it'll have is still not decided so far and might not happen until some time during Q1-Q2 2027.
As for the Nintendo Switch 2? Yeah that's a huge yikes if they do it... Which makes me wonder if the Nintendo Switch 2 (OLED) will be overpriced as well :/
