i seriously doubt this film would do "generational harm" to Prince and his people. it does sound really insightful, and i hope it sees the light of day. though, i'm not sure if essentially "leaking" some of the more unsavory things that the estate doesn't want to be shared is the best move in making that happen.

Though Edelman and Netflix retained final cut, Belloni reported, the estate had managed to hold up the project because of a clause in its original contract with Netflix, which stipulates that the film be no more than six hours in length. According to Belloni, Edelman was not willing to truncate it.
if the editing team was aware of this, then

Eh idk depending what the focus is on with this project they could defo change the public narrative of prince being a musical genius who fought for the right of artists to a control freak almost cult leader figure who groomed a few girls.
Truth is probably both or somewhere in the middle but I don’t think there’s any chance this project gets released and if it does don’t be surprised if it’s just a bunch of selected band mates who just ramble on about how great he was without giving in any insight. No way they release an honest truthful documentary because likely prince wouldn’t even want that lol

To elaborate on the "truth being in the middle". I completely agree.
But that's what life is, and that's what being human is. We are complex beings that lead intricate paradoxically oxymoronic lives.
Prince WAS a traiblazer for artists, and did stand up against the industry, but he might have also done some unsavoury s***. It is what it is. But that doesn't deny what he contributed to the world.
Calling out that he did said unsavoury s*** does not mean that the doc is a hit job. It's about seeing the complexities, as beautiful and ugly as it can be, of a man that contributed some of the best art of the 20th century.
The current estate holders are just looking out for their bag imho; they're worried that showing "disgruntled associates" telling their truth and "autopsy photos" are going to ruin Prince's legacy and f*** up their bag. That's why they're blocking it .Let's be real here.
The Line V1 >>>> V2
Ngl I totally disagree. Know a lot of ppl feel this way tho. Feel like ppl got demoitis with an unreleased song. Structure of the live instruments on v2 brings it together for me. I dig the minimalist vibe of v1 tho. Feels very ahead of its time. Hopefully we can get both in some form

Fair enough, the Sheila/Boni chants are sick though. V2 definitely fits Lovesexy a lot more than V1 does, which sounds more SOTT-esque
Need to peep more of his Time stuff word to @WRU

What Time Is It and Ice Cream Castle are essential, you can peep the rest later if you like those. What Time Is It is six songs so its a nice tight listen

Both versions elite tho. Would be a shame for just one version to be released
Wtf why am I just finding out about this
Anyone else find the tracklist for Love Symbol kinda weird. Not in too much of a bad way since its still one of my fav prince albums. But the sequencing kinda reminds me of albums in the streaming era. Kinda stands out cuz prince usually was really good at sequencing

Would sound much better with all the segues removed and the OG "However Much U Want" added back. (Not the piano demo vers., though!)

The whole concept of the album being based around justifying grooming a 16 year old is the weirdest part about it

I’d run through that album one more time and listen to the lyrics a bit more carefully, pretty clear in retrospect

Yeah, you could definitely look at the album like that… it’s generic enough that you could look at the lyrics differently, but yeah, it’s there. I Wanna Melt With U, The Continental, Love 2 The 9’s, Morning Papers are about the relationship. It’s not the only theme of the album, but it’s definitely one of them
