So from what I understand -- it's totally possible to propose a Carbon Tax as a ballot initiative on the state level, it's just not being done because people think it will fail?

Feel like it would have a very good shot here in California (maybe not in this midterm year election, but in 2024).

realistically at least atm i assume people don't want to put anything that says "a new tax for..." on a ballot rn esp. attached to a specific political party's agenda while the economy is going downhill. regardless of the beneficial nature of the tax or otherwise, it's free bait to political opposition while the main concern of most of the voting populace is the economy and their income right now (even if the tax isn't on them)

It did 100%. Conservatives are just headline addicts at the end of the day. Nothing thrills them more than stupid public spectacles.

What’s even wilder is how popular DeSantis is in Florida when a huge percentage of their state is going to be destroyed over the next decade from Global Warming and he’s actively supporting it lmao

That s*** is expensive, I would jump on the chance for a free 99 voyage

Then when I got there I'd give a maudlin Fox News interview about how benevolent he was to try and parlay it into a larger conserva-grift

    its pretty crazy

i've been reading the crosstabs on all the polls they're putting out and he's consistently been getting close to the 53% of the "Hispanic" vote that he gets in this poll

that would be catastrophic for his chances of winning; in 2018, for reference, he probably got around two-thirds of the "Hispanic" vote

At bare minimum he needs 60% of the "Hispanic" vote and 90% of the Black vote; anything less than that and he's not even in the ballpark

conversely in 2018 Cruz probably in turn got two-thirds of the Anglo vote

Abbott appears to be holding Cruz's level of Anglo support while Beto's "Hispanic" support is crumbling compared to what he got in 2018

the polls allege the same thing with Black voters -- only 79% in this poll -- but i find that hard to believe and suspect when the exit polls come around Beto will again be close to 90% with Black voters)

Texas "Hispanics" tho, especially in the governor's race, are certainly susceptible to Texas Republican appeals

In 2018, my grandma voted for Beto for Senate and Abbott for Governor (she liked what he had done in child support reform, lol)

I've convinced her to pick Beto this time around but the damaging thing is that both Abbott and Beto have had their popularity in Texas damaged since 2018, and this hurts Beto more since Abbott has the higher ground (despite being the one who is closer to Anakin Skywalker after his fight with Obi-Wan status)

I just think older white people in the south and older Hispanic people in the south are highly susceptible to machismo rhetoric and focus less on how actual policy affects their lives (possibly due to being less educated and voting more based on emotion?).

The woke movement of the Dems is just not conducive to the culture of a state like Texas for this reason imo.
