    https://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-says-no-other-model-is-coming-after-switch-oled/amp/

Listen up gamers, I know you may not want to hear this but there isn’t another Switch model coming out after OLED. At least not anytime soon. Nintendo has made it pretty clear, it’s up to us to listen and not let rumors get out of control.

The original Switch model is still selling like butter, so Nintendo don't really need to drop a Pro model, even if we'd surely be interested in one. I don't think their statement "and we have no plans for launching any other model at this time" necessarily rules out the possibility of another model coming in the next few years. They always say that they have "no plans at this time" or "nothing to announce at this time" when asked about upcoming hardware/revisions, so while it may be true 'at this time', I don't think it is 'necessarily' true for the rest of the 'Switch's lifetime' - which leads to my next point:

Nintendo said in some interview this year that the Switch is about halfway through its life cycle, so after about 4 years we could still be in for another 4 years of switching and drifting, and that leaves a lot of room for new models.

Also, with some major games getting a sequel in 2022, it seems to me that Nintendo are not planning to cut the Switch generation off any time soon, which leaves some room for new models in the coming years. One game in particular that tells me this is the announcement of Splatoon 3. With Splatoon 2 consistently being supported with new updates, Splatfests and other content for a like 2-3 years after its release, I find it hard to believe that they'd give us Splatoon 3 in 2022 and then just cut it off a year later and move on to next gen, which also leaves some room for a new model before they move on to the next gen.

Just speculating of course. Y'all got any thoughts on on my thoughts? @AP3 @isellpixels

they have to say this, they have a new product on the horizon and they can’t have another upcoming product overshadow it. They won’t announce any switch pro plans for over a year probably, and it’ll release in 14-16 months. Way too early to say anything about it so this will be their stance until then. Remember they said the same thing about an upcoming new model months ago, and then boom it was announced

I don’t think Nintendo is done with adding more models to the Switch lineup. I just don’t think another model won’t happen in the near future. Especially since they have already announced sequels to Zelda and Splatoon like you mentioned. That tells me they are locked in on the current version of the Switch and not a Pro model.

I think the real question is, what makes the difference between a Pro model (revision) and next gen (for Nintendo standards)? If Nintendo upgrades the GPU and lets say add 4K. Which one does it fall under?

They’ve been saying this though, the reason they are saying it again is because Nintendo knows the rumors got out of hand.

Great point. That is indeed the question. What makes the difference between a Pro model (revision) and their next gen console? Would have to be a combination of things like a new title for the console, exclusive first party games that are incompatible with their previous Switches, improved hardware and features and a whole bunch of semantics Basically, if they say it's their gen console, then it is. If not, it ain't.

That’s true. However I think Nintendo is really approaching the Switch like Apple does with iPhone. I don’t think we’ll see a next gen console for a very long time by definition. I don’t see them creating something that will not be compatible with the Switch because it’s their iPhone. It’ll be a newer version of the Switch which basically makes it a “Pro Model”. Very much like what Apple does with its Pro line.

would you all vibe with a non handheld "switch" that was much more powerful for 4k play?

Id be very interested tbfh. ive got the switch lite for handheld play and I could use a more powerful switch only for docked play.

I wouldn’t, but then again I only play docked when I need to, for competitive games online or need to use motion controls.

But that’s another version of the Switch Nintendo could do.

I could see it as a way to beef up the specs and keep costs low since it wont need to support the handheld form factor.

you havent said anything wrong, no

i just stand by what ive said since the OLED reveal which is that at LEAST 9 months after the OLED has been released will we see another model, and that's if we are lucky

touching on another current topic - a home/deck only model would be awesome, sure it wouldn't "switch" just like the Lite but you could still "switch" from a Home model to the Lite model and play the same games

Nintendo could also find software that makes it so when im done playing on my Home model, i can seamlessly move to Lite just like pulling the OG or OLED tablet out, but without having to

the benefit being the Switch OS and games are still universal across Switch models, allowing you to "switch" from a Lite to an OG if needed like i mentioned above

That is very interesting. I can definitely see them doing the Switch like Apple does with the iPhone and I think I might have speculated about it before because I know I've gotten some Apple vibes from Nintendo. We shall see.

    okay but dude

my f***ing TV makes docked play look like s***

because it's a gorgeous 65" screen, true native 4K looks amazing, the 1080p upscaling from the TV isn't horrible but it's f***ing trash compared to native of course and the Switch OS has terrible anti-aliasing or the dashboard runs at 720p even when docked? idk

point is, we need some kind of DLSS, FSR or full on 1440p minimum going into 2022 because of how screens are

you the type to say that the Wii never needed an HDMI port lmao

I hear ya dawg. Thanks for the input. I wouldn't mind a 'home console only' model as well since I play mostly in TV mode anyways. The Switch Lite already kinda showed that the Switch doesn't really have to "switch" to be a Switch, so at least they shouldn't be opposed to the idea.

sshd really hitting 30 hours in and it’s kinda crazy how desperately this game needed these changes (button controls, less handholding/tutorials, and 60fps+hd)

    they did this game justice

I think it would be a cool option, the opposite of the switch lite, so it would broaden out more the switch line, but i personally would prefer a more powerful switch to remain a hybrid, handheld play is too comfortable for me
