back before i learnt how to really play i would just put a transposer on the track to make it sound good and just hit whatever

in logic it was a lil easier, but for ableton, go to midi effects, scale, and then pick a scale (you can manually change it yourself so it doesn't matter what you pick) and then you can just go ham and it'll put whatever you play into whatever key you set

there's some max 4 live plugins that can generate random chords n s*** too
i guess i still use a transposer cause when i do stuff with my push 2 i just pick a scale to make s*** easier
